New DSTV HD Decoder

Hmmm some people seem to have a prob with me selling the silver UEC model. why? In any case will let it go for 2200, if anyone is interested(thats still 800 bucks cheaper then normal selling price) send me a pm if you int.

does it come with an HDMI cable? haven't had a chance to look inside the box yet.

so i got one inthe boot of my car!!
will be testing single LNB thing tonight...

any 'special' settings i need to be running off single LNB

will be getting SATCR anyway for my Xtraview setup at a later stage

Single LNB wont work trust me, you will see some channels work and some dont

Has to do with the polarization i think, read it on the dstv website.

We all know that much. Please only state facts you know or have tested... You can also run the old PVR of a single LNB by splitting cables. However you can only watch horizontal or vertical band, ie. you will losse channels.

However, we have established that you can run the new PVR, yes even boot it, off a single lnb connection, leaving the second connector empty. The question is whether the decoder can automatically switch between the polarization like s standard decoder (without recording at the same time).

My suspicion is yes. Why? Because if you connected to a dual lnb you can watch any channel and record any channel at the same time. Ie.e the following options are possible vert*vert; vert*hor, hor*vert, hor*hor.
With the old decoder 4 connections were needed, even though off a dual lnb. Thus I have a feeling it might be possible to watch all channels off a single lnb, but I need a confirmation from someone with the decoder!

Geezzzzz sorry i said something :wtf:

Didn't mean it like that. It's just that some of us just want to watch HD and don't care about recording etc. Plus, we don't want to spend huge amounts on dual lnb installations or in some cases these installations or not possible (complexes). Multichoice wants people to believe that things only work one way which makes sense as that reduces the risk of problems etc. Which is why when you phone them they even deny the decoder can boot of a single lnb (which we have proven that it can). However, there are other ways and even though they might not be perfect they work for us. Thus I/this thread is trying to find out exactly what the new decoder can do and what it can't.

I agree, i cant understand why they cant bring out a view-only HD decoder. I read somewhere they say its not cost efficient to produce such a decoder, what a load of BS - but that's what Multichoice is like for the most part. So yeah it would be great if one lnb works so we can spread the word. I for one would need the SATCR or dual-lnb being one of the lucky-few who got the daddy hd-pvr this morning. But i am happy i did get the full one as it has come to light that DSTV on demand only works on the daddy one

What exactly can the new decoder do?

Spot on

Just come back from HIFi Corp Woodmead.

There are no specials : Baby Pace PVR at R1999, UEC PVR at R2999, both are Recommended Retail.

I bought the Baby PVR, I prefer it.

WRT above :

1) Pace

2) Don't know disk size, it can record 50hr HD or 150hr SD (I will put in 1TB drive after warranty expires)

3) It has RF In/Out - don't know whether they work yet.

4) Can't answer yet - I have a dual LNB, so should work fine for me without splitter.

Can answer questions tonight at home, will monitor the thread for questions.

They clearly screwed up over at hifi corp. The add is misleading and amounts to false advertising. If you insist on the one in the add then they must sell you the daddy one, otherwise you can take them to the ASA imho

I tried that with them already.... "E&OE" they said!

Does this mean if you're assumption is correct, that those living in complexes running of Single LNB via (one to many) MULTISWITCHES will also work?

I am not sure. I think in that case you would be able to watch and record but onlt channels on the same band... Might be wrong and mostly might lead to crashes depending on the software. Can't say before I have a concrete answer on what happens with a single lnb one cable set up
