New DSTV HD Decoder

You would need a heartbeat cable between them, yes.
Smurfy, thanks for answering.

Current HDPVRs will function on 1 input with view 1 channel but they wont boot up with only 1 tuner active, so you need to at least confuse it by doing a "1x4" split
New HDPVR, my guess is you would lose the TV guide & record 1
But as I said above, you cant have a PVR & not use PVR functions, well you can but its crazy

Interesting, thanks. It's not crazy, I really do not watch TV and only want the decoder to have the world cup in HD. Afterwards I will sell it again. Plus I most likely have to move apartment in September and the high installation cost would be a waste... Not that I can afford a years subscribtion to DSTV in any case! So if I can watch HD on the decoder, don't have to waste huge amounts of money on installation, sell it again in three months time but loose every other function on the decoder I'd be happy!

:erm: i wonder if it's a major to lose EPG or TV Guide???
certainly to NOT record 2 could'nt bother me... One is FINE!

Is it possible to sell after as the card is decoder specific innit?

Twin LNB is closer to R300

I bet you have never had a PVR before

Its R65 now, its all one & the same so you cant pick & choose which functions you want

Thanks for answering my silly question. :)

It's 'married' to the decoder but that doesn't mean it's permanent. If you own both decoders, you can simply SMS them the serial of the other decoder and they will 'marry' the card to the new one. (Useful if you have a decoder at your holiday house, for instance.)
However, if you sell, you simply have to give the buyer a signed letter from yourself stating that you've sold it.

I have the extraview set up with two 1110 decoders...I want to get this new HD PVR decoder. Does one SD decoder then go in the bin? Since I bought my HD LCD, my old 54 CRT is in the cupboard. Will I be able to make use of this 'redundant' SD decoder and TV in another room?

Well yes, if you have a completely separate dish, to my knowledge. (As far as I know, there is no way to run 3 different decoders off a single dish installation.)

I have my own cmplete seperate dish...do I need another one..?

ok, I'm sure you installed dstv in some mansion in your lifetime.....4 bedrooms, each with his own TV and DStv decoder + the TV room, lounge and kitchen.....what do you do then...?

Are you telling my that you can only run 2 decoders in xtraview.....?

That is what a multiswitch is for.

EDIT: For the signal, but for more that 2 decoders you need seperate subscriptions, sharing a dish via multiswitch.

explain.....please...

remember my wife is going to do the installation....and she needs as much detail as possible....

you sound like our linux sysadmin.....always answers with one liners.....

You can run hundreds of decoders off a single dish, but Xtraview is limited to 2 decoders so your 3rd decoder will be rather pointless.
A 1110 decoder should be fairly valuable now as the newer 1131 is cr@p

To run the new HDPVR & a 1110 you will need 3 feeds. I take it your decoder has a twin LNB so you will need a multiswitch to split the 2 feeds into 3. Get a 2x4 multiswitch, 2 in, 4 out (you will obviously only use 3)

You can run three decoders from one dish using a multiswitch. So dish (2 cables from dual lnb) > multiswitch (probably 6 port) > various decoders. Xtraview will only allow 2 decoders, so for a third one you need another account, e.g. another R500 odd per month.

I am a linux sysadmin :)

You could always pass that 1110 my way, lol *wink wink*

If I am correct here, but the only difference between the current PVR's and the new PVR's is that on the current ones, you can record 2 channels and with the new one you can record 1 channel only.

My assumption is that they'll reduce the amount of recording space as well.

Naaah, I'll stick to the UEC PVR which I should be getting very soon.

Update:

The new PVR has landed on shore... In Durban Harbour and surprise surprise, they are stuck there due to transnet strikes! Could be another 2 weeks before release

News like this doesn't really surprise me any more. Thanks for the update, Tim.
