New DSTV HD Decoder

Single LNB wont work trust me, you will see some channels work and some dont

That is a big lie,
Tuner 1 carries all Polarization, whether Vertical or Horizontal, That only takes place when you use the MS, which requires you to have both Polarization, when i first bought My HD PVR back last year May 2009, I was running it from a single LNB since February this year, when i bought myself a Quad LNB and 2x8MS, so Respect cause im telling

Thanks for the info. Did you trick the decoder with a 1x4 splitter or did it just work. Also could you still watch HD?

What installation is required for the HD PVR 2P?
The HD PVR 2P has 2 tuners and requires a two wire installation, ie. the minimum requirement is a twin LNB.
MultiChoice recommends that installation of the HD PVR is done by a DStv Accredited Installer. To find an accredited installer in your area, SMS your postal code to 33936 (SMS costs R1.50)

I’m using a communal dish and shared decoder to watch DStv (ie. each unit does not have their own separate decoder). Can I use the HD PVR?
Yes, the HD PVR 2P model supports Multi Unit Dwelling installations.

What are the restrictions in terms of performance if I don’t have a twin LNB installation?

The HD PVR 2P will not work on a single feed, unless the single feed is a SatCR installation.

very, very vague....we have one dish with twin LNB....two feeds, one going to one 1110 decoder in the lounge and one feed goes to the other 1110 decoder in the bedroom. Must a get now get someone to install the 'multiswitch outside the flat and drill another hole in the wall to get a second feed to the baby HD decoder in the lounge?

I can tell you that much that you most probably won't be able to record and watch at the same time. But ignore what DSTV manual etc says, it's all lies. We're trying to find out what really happens, should know by tonight...

Ok, Tim182, let me know....I don't want to pay someone R400 to come and drill a hole....plus my landlady will start frowning.....

Quick question....I have an RF splitter (1 -> 2).....can I in the meantime split the one feed from my dual LNB and stuff it into the baby HD decoder....sort of to fool it...

Does this mean if you're assumption is correct, that those living in complexes running of Single LNB via (one to many) MULTISWITCHES will also work?

One thing one must understand is that, if you are currently have any Dstv decoders ( DSD660,990(i),1110-1131) , and you decide on buying the BABY HDPVR, using your existing connection: these are the things you should encounter.

a) You will have all the PVR Functionalities of your decoder, ( thats means if you subscribe to HD Access +- R80)

B) You wil be able to record on other channel, which are on the same Polarisation, that means if you watch Mnet (101) and wanbt to record on Channel 103-109 that would be possible cause they are running from the same Polirization, but you own be able record from MM2/MM3 while watching Any HD Channels, cause the polarization is aint the same.

3) lastly but not least, You wont have Series Recording, nor DOD until further notice, now those who had HD PVR know how lomng it took for uts implementation,

So better the Devil you know, than the One you dont Know :D

why is it that these new hd pvr's wont have dstv on demand?
I called my hifi corp and they told me it's not the new hd pvr but the older one "the silver one" he said.. I'm want HD but im just not sure which one to buy?? I see no benefit, other than record 2 channels (at a higher installation cost), that the old decoder has over the baby one..

I noticed that the "baby" UEC model has component out whereas the pace pvr2 doesn't. Anyone know if/when the UEC model is going to be released?

AAaaaahhh.....said the blind man to his deaf son sitting on the corner of a round table...

now THAT I understand....now the dual lnb feed makes sense....

@kayoss : If they will give you the silver UEC for R1999 get that - else go for the baby.

Are you sure, have tested or know someone who tested? Because some of us are depending on this info, ie. if it in fact works this way off a single lnb with splitter

This could be a problem for me - they didn't mention anything like this !!!

Is this even with a dual LNB ?

looks like it will work off a single feed using an RF splitter, but you won't be able to record channels on the other polarization feed...you will only be able to record channels that are on the same polarization as what you are currently watching....for now, this will work for me....

I used at 1x4 splitter for about 3months after buying the PACE HD PVR, the only improvement was that I had Signal on Turner 4 which was for my EPG since Tuner 4 carries all the Interactive services, with the BABY HD PVR I had that they combine tuner 4 to Tuner 1, As well as I could record Two Channel as well only if they are on the same Polarization.

No the RF feed is the output, I just read the review on the DSTV forum and its a dual LNB device

ok, thanks madlala....this will work for me....I can go without the recording for now....got two 1110 decoders ATM, and 'recording' is foreign to me, like mxit and facebook...

I'm in no mood to get ANOTHER installer...R400 call out, R400 'installation'...
