New DSTV HD Decoder

how much extra do you pay monthly for the hd pvr?
I have an sd-pvr and want to get the baby hd pvr today/tomorrow, wondering how much extra I will have to pay excluding the cost of the new decoder and the installation.

Nothing extra per month because the R65 you currently pay for the PVR functionality covers the extraview as well. You will only pay for the decoder and the installation - cost me R2700 in total.

Flashsa, I agree. Hopefully with this cheaper HD decoder, the HD subscriber base will increase and they might have more motivation to increase coverage.

In other news, ONE thing that I am disappointed with, coming from my SD PVR is the TV Guide. Perhaps it's already been covered in this thread, but the TV Guide on the SD PVR was more powerful. I could select "Sport", then "Rugby", and see ONLY the Rugby programming for the week.

I cannot see any way to do this on both big and baby HD decoders. Why did they drop this very useful feature?

Yeah that does suck - it has been missing since they brought HD to the market. It is strange that they have continued to exclude this AWESOME feature from the HD decoder's TV GUIDE.... oh well.. at least I can search on the SD-PVR and then swap back to the BABY-HD.

Anyone used the record function on the New HD decoder? It works most times but I notice quite often, recordings or canceled or stopped by themselves for some reason. I assume it's the usual bugs the older HD decoder is/was having. Am I right?

Also on the updating of the decoder. When you go to DSD Upgrade, there is no red button to do a manual update, you can only set automating scheduled update. Is the same for everyone else?

i installed the decoder myself with a single LNB and would now like to get a second LNB for recording and then i also want extraview.. I've called a couple of places and they all want around R2500 for installation (excl the extraview decoder). Is it hard to do this all myself? because i think R2500 to run some more LNB's from my dish, which is about 20 meters from my decoder, is a rip off.

Thanks

There is a whole thread on how to make the Baby Pace work with a single LNB - read it !

It's also simple to install a dual LNB and run an additional cable, as long as you are a bit handy and have some common sense.

i have read it and hence i have installed it with a single LNB.

How many LNB's do i need for the extraview decoder? can i just use a splitter or must i use a multiswitch? also, my current LNB is not SatCR, should i change that?

Some people like the decoders to work properly

R2500 is crazy, have you maybe not described what you want properly?
Get a Twin LNB - about R250
Cabling to the decoder at about R3 a metre
2x F connectors - R3 each

You can try change the LNB yourself, mark the exact position of the current LNB & replace with Twin.
Connect RF cable from LNB port to the decoder (after putting the F connectors on the ends)
If you want an installer to change the LNB for you it shouldnt be more then R250 labour

Regarding Xtraview, you can get a 2x4 multiswitch (R250) which the 2 LNB cables go into. You will then need 2 short cables going from the switch to the HDPVR & another one/two for the other decoder depending what your 2nd decoder is. Assuming both decoders will be in the same room, oh & another short RF cable to connect between the decoders for heartbeat

thanks for all the info, where do i go to get all this stuff?

Also, what is the difference between a Satcr LNB and my old LNB?

quick question regarding this... I currently have 2 x DSD 1131 decoders running Xtra View. So Im paying that extra R65. I got a dual LNB coming from the dish, 1 cable to each 1131 of course

1. If I upgrade my primary 1131 to a baby HD, would I have to pay for the new PVR functionality?
2. Would I be required to pop in a multi switch to enable recording on my baby HD?

Thanks for the help

1. Down the road, left at stop street, right by the church & then 42nd building on your left..... oh wait thats for Pofadder, if you are somewhere else it would be a good idea to give your location

2. A SatCR is able to switch polarities with 1 cable, so it works with a HDPVR with just a single cable (called a legacy port)
You can use this for your needs, it has a 2nd cable which can be used for a single view decoder, or if you find one with 2x legacy ports then you can run 2xHDPVRs off it

Can anyone recommend an installer that can supply and fit a new HD PVR baby decoder in the Bryanston area?

Or even just install?

I have an oldish decoder, but the dish, cabling and lnb on the house are very old, so would prefer to change it to a new 1.

Advice please

Hi,

I currently have an SD PVR with a single LNB connection. If I buy the new HD PVR can I simply plug it in or are there additional components required?

thanks.

That is a rip off, if you are in Cape Town I can recommend you a guy (arredited) which will do it for around 1k. Otherwise do it yourself if you have the time, it is not hard. There are many many guides on this forum, just use search. All you have to do is buy a cable and a dual lnb and put it on your satellite. The calibration can be tricky but that's about it. The cabling depends on your place....
