New DStv streaming package deal

Drop the contract nonsense.
I would subscribe if they allow 2 streams at the same time on any device. I have 2 TVs in the same house and would like to be able to watch sport on one and whatever else for the kids on the other.
Make the quality of the stream the same, or better than what we see on satellite. There is no good reason in 2024 to not enable that.

Yeah my thoughts as well tbh...

Make it R699 per month with no contract and 2 normal streams from the same house, and I MIGHT actually be interested in it.

Okay - still don't see value in that, unless you want to "analyze" the game, from way to few camera angles.
Like I said, big games are live on SABC+ for free, so paying DSTV R699 for the same thing (in poor quality too) makes very little sense.

Why they don't have a sports only streaming package for for, hmm, R200 or so per month seems absolutely insane to me.

Ah well, at least F1TV exists and is awesome 😎

Looks like the new update also brought the option to select audio language for streaming.

A sports only streaming package would be around R600 per month very likely, so doesn't really make commercial sense to have such a thing as a standalone.

As much as I will rail on MC and DSTV for being stupidly expensive, I am also aware that the sports rights are probably amongst their biggest rights cost line items annually.

End of the day, it is just not worth it, to subscribe to DSTV - the number of hours spent watching, does not justify the cost.

Now if it was possible to watch, 3 games a day, every day, that would be different.

Agee, but does the sports rights really have to be so expensive?

Not impossible. There's been times I've been much into Cricket, Tennis and Golf together and that can easily deliver your high demands

That and some of the series that they do still have first rights to.

That would be up to the sporting bodies themselves unfortunately, its not like DSTV has set the price, the sporting bodies do...

and unfortunately we are at the mercy of the international market which can set high prices for exclusivity.
