New e-toll plan could charge drivers 10c per gantry

The task team created by President Ramaphosa aims to propose a number of solutions to the problem of e-tolls, comprising plans which see the system scrapped entirely as well as a plan which would see toll rates be discounted dramatically.

Documents obtained by the City Press outline the task team's plans, one of which would see the drivers charged 10 cents per gantry or up to a maximum of R100 per month.

^ Exactly.

This is about principle.
Once you pay, you're basically saying, "We support your corrupt fck ups and, at the right price, will do so again in the future."

Stay strong Gautengers, don't fall for the BS

The 10 cents per gantry sounds reasonable, and the max sounds ok, and thats what makes these types of parasitic additions feasable, live and let live, not live and extort.
1-This is acceptable.
2-This should not set the path for huge increases further down the line, as we have seen in many cases after a "cost structure" was created. The cost start innocent, but is then hijacked and extorted down the line.
3-This rule should stick for this generation at least who paid for it in taxes already.
4-This is a "service" to the motorist, not a quick get rich scheme, if the construction was any good it should last for 5 generations at least, so whats the hurry in racking up costs.

Extras:
The same for bank and financial costs, not ,1% plus ranges , but round about ,001%-1% range due to huge amounts flowing..

Yeeeeeeah, no. 10c per gantry means about 90% reduction. So they decrease costs by 90%, they cannot make the required targets. If everyone paid at current rates, they would make R250M per month. At 90% reduction, they would make 30M per month? Less than what they are making now!

My maths done from the hip, someone gooi some proper calculations in here?

If they are prepared to allow me to pay 10c a gantry without forcing me to sign their silly contract, I will think about it for a second or so.

No brainer, cost more to collect the 10 cent. Will then have to implement a tax to make up the shortfall on expensive collection method.

It is a PLOY! If you accept 10c, you accept the e-toll system. Once you accept 10c, they can increase it in future as they wish.
They did the same on the N4 at Nkomazi when farmers and taxis blocked the road. They implemented a reduced tarif @ R7 or R8 or something, cannot remember the exact amount. @ R70 for cars now it is the 2nd most expensive toll gate on the N4.

If you accept 10c, you accept the e-toll!!!

Typical bait strategy, once you sign the contract they will start with increases, will be justifying it with similar "songs" as with petrol prices.

Cynically I said they should have started at 1c per km when e-tolls first appeared. Like the boiling frog theory they would have their 80% compliance and the full 50c per km by now. This is now too little too late and looks desperate.

It seems that we are finally at the real price for e-tolls now the corruption has been paid for..

We have to keep on asking why this is user pays but NHI not? The ANC sees you as a cow to be milked since you are rich enough to own a car, not a road user they should provide a service to.

They are trying to lure us into a false sense of victory. Pay your 10c per gantry and as soon as the majority adhere, they increase the fees astronomically as it is considered as an endorsement of the principal. GFY Sanral.
I only support the total scrapping of e-tolls.

If not paying e-tolls will cause demerits on my license then I would be happy to pay this 10c flat rate per toll, until then. No.
