Hi all,

Since Friday all my external drives open in a new window.
When I go into My Computer and double click oy of them it open in a new window. On my friends PC aswell.

Well I checked the Tools>Folder Options and the "same window" is clicked.

Any idea what I clicked on Friday that is causing this? :)

its definatly a virus, i had that one...

update your anti-virus (note avast couldn't find it), i used both AVG and bitdefender and get rid of that virus....

Okay so I ran a virus scan, but now the external drives doesn't want to open. I need to right click and open it with Internet Explorer. The box where I can tick "always open with this program" has been greyed out. :(

I had a similar type of virus where the virus set an autorun file to run itself and then opened the window. Check if the drives have an autorun.inf file on them and if they do delete it. It might be hidden so make sure hidden files are displayed etc.

No autorun file, only a RavMonLog that appears every time I delete it.

(after the virus scan, it doesn't even want to open)

kiepie, find the names of the 4 virusses, and look online for removal tools for each and every one of them. You will probably have to boot into safe mode with restore disabled to do it, but do it!

You won't need to reinstall even though a re-install after a major virus event is always desired should conditions allow.

Good luck!

*Sigh*

All right, I'll check if might be a virus :D

Well, it started the download without any warnings... I'll have to wait until I can buy some more cap before I can download it completely, though (iBurst cap of death!)

Hi Antowan,

1) The external drive issue was with a virus called RavMonLog, it's gone now, but the external drive is like a "unknown format" at the moment. Can't select a program and click the tab "always open with this". :(

Afriad that a format won't fix that.

2) The second virus is HiDrag.A, AVG sends ALL my .exe files to quarentine but doesn't want to REPAIR it.
Looked all over on the net, can't find a REPAIR solution... :(

Okay so I think the virus is gone. But now my PC doesn't regonise my EXTERNAL DRIVES, I need to choose IE to open them...
