New Feature in iBurst (iBurst Browser Hijacking & more)

My grievance is actually far simpler to understand than that. I'm talking about a browser hijacking redirect scenario.

When, for instance, you click on a search result in Google, your user expectation is that you will be redirected to a Google search result page. Right?

Not that your browser will inform you about the state of your cap. Right?

I have to say google is now getting smarter if you do a search on anything at a specific time you end up at iburst no matter what you actually wanted to look up. I guees we could be luckily they don't try to sell us a subscription or tell us we won the lottery, but like I stated I will drop my iburst modem and switch to someone else that's for sure, unless they dropp there booster prices extremely lower cause my boss has not yet gave my salary a boost

Re Directing

When last did you get the redirect screen? And how often?

Well I'm not getting it now, but it's the 2nd of the month so I still have enough cap left I'm just worried about the crap that's waiting for me at the end of the month.

I use the internet 24/7 I'm always on playing online browser games while I work these games include Ogame, Wildguns, Facebook Games, FreeFarmGame and a couple others so in my session per day which mostly last from 08:00 until about 23h00 I get that messages about 10 to 20 times, that's excluding sometimes while I'm in the game and pres a button the iburst just loads in the frame that's as suppose to upload and that looks really stupid. So it's a lot I also get my email every morning informing my about my Capp.

Now I read through this thread and yes some people don't have emails very hard to imagine and I'm also presuming that those are the same people that would complain about there service and those are also the same people that might still be using there DVD Rom for a coffee holder or barely know how to use word or windows itself. So yes there's a lot of those people in this country and we're getting to a point or will get to a point we're everyone would become more skilled in using the computer and understanding it, but in the other hand there's just as much people that are already skilled and have a zero tolerance for irritating things happening on there computers. It's hard enough with all the spy ware and viruses floating around not to mention pop=ups or adds displaying all over the internet so all your basically doing is adding to the already stressed out environment of the internet by forwarding to your page.

What I'm asking myself is doesn't the top management of iburst use the internet and are they on the throttled accounts and do they reach there capp each month, because if they did they would have realized the problems something like this would cause so the approach to the problem of trying to get less calls to your helpdesk has cause your core users to become upset. So how do you solve one problem by creating another that's just very stupid.

You want to solve the problem built something into the Dashboard of iburst under the user preferences that says disable bandwidth exceeded warning message or something like that and then apply a filter to filter through the connections and only forward those that have selected yes to the re-directing and off course all new clients until they log onto the dashboard and change it.

At least now you give your core advance user an option and the not so skilled users get there messages so you now have all your clients happy and not just half of them and to make things even better set the modem up so that the first time a new client logs onto the iburst network it redirects them to a page that allows them to customize there preferences, do something like you see when you install internet explorer for the first time it loads a page welcoming you to IE and you have to set your browser up save the and then you can continue without ever worrying about seeng that page again if you don't want to see it again.

I understand and share your frustration. I've also been shopping around for other broadband providers at present, but decided that iBurst has been doing loads of upgrades the past couple of months, there is a new regime, we got a bit of free bandwidth last month, and getting ADSL takes about 2 days apparently, so there's no rush. I'll give it another month.

I also agree that throttled speed is not free bandwidth as we already paid for that. If iBurst doesn't consider that as part of what we pay for, then we shouldn't consider this feature as part of the package when we look at other options. This makes the other options far more attractive, mind you.

Advice I learned from my experiences: Don't contact the iBurst helpdesk. Don't even try. You're flogging a dead horse. Rather post your queries here, the odds are much better that someone will respond.

If you want to prevent your browser from being hijacked, please have a look at the rest of this thread and the thread over here:

New Feature in iBurst, page 6.

The browser hijacking has been limited to a couple of times per day, so it's no longer necessary to completely block the iBurst website in your hosts file, but you can find instructions on how to do that on the provided link if this is what you desire. Blocking a site on your hosts file means your computer can't go there, even if it wanted to.

You're also welcome to use my script - it prevents your browser from being possessed and it gives you the option of going to iBurst's website if that is in fact what you wanted to do. This is an easier option. Installation instructions on the provided link. Look for my posts there.

Hope that helps and I hope your iBurst frustrations and mine get less in the coming month.

Any progress on the click-through?

Sounded like it was ready to be implemented immediately but well.....reality seems to point to a different story?

Pretty much about as often as expected, once per logon (sometimes it forgets a log on but I won't complain about that) and once more randomly sometime during the day.

So the infrequency already makes it a lot less annoying but it would still be nice for a click-through.

There was/is a bit of a challenge with the click-through code but it is still on the cards. Hopefully next week.

Alrighty the continue button (which I assume is for click-through) is now present but doesn't actually do anything when clicked, known issue?

Still a problem implementing it I'm guessing?

I dunno if this is a coincidence or not but is Iburst sneaking in advertising to my browsing? :p

Just when you're think you're rid of "You're throttled page" for a while, I'm browsing tv.com and the advert at the bottom is "Break free with Iburst prepaid internet" with it showing the "You're thottled page" underneathe that, sneaky iburst buggers :p

Eish, clearly. Let me check.

iBurst hijacking browsing to redirect to top-up page

Anyone else experienced this? I was a trifle miffed, to say the least. I don't mind being capped, having an email sent that says so, etc, but hijacking my web browser is simply not cricket.

iburps don't play cricket. It interferes with their highwayman time.
I don't know what you are on about. I've met some iburst users (and I'm also thinking of people who I'd like to get on iburst) who do not know the difference between capped and uncapped speeds; a friendly reminder can only be a good thing.

Besides, it frees up the call centre for those of us who have legitimate complaints.

So we are on a LAN and I don't need the users coming to me about this message a few times a day.

How about a tickbox and iburst remembering to not show the message again for the month or day even - I only need to see the message once if at all.

Watch the call center implode once hard capping kicks in. And it is not a good thing it is irritating.

Oh. So what the **** is wrong with an email? Do they have to be dicks about it?
