New Ford Everest

Decent! The old one was the height of meh.

It's an SUV based on a bakkie. Inevitably they will have the same general shape. The rest of it is very much Ford, so I think that other guy must have his eyes checked. Is there anything worse than people who immediately try to compare a new car to something else? No discussion of specs or interior features. Just an immediate, "Looks like a ....". Unless it is a blatant copy, it is just so damn unnecessary.

Yeah. But SUVs all look each other the same way to the extent that all hatchbacks look like each other, or all sedans...

A Discovery and a IX35 look nothing alike.

The 2015 Ford Everest feels like ultimate merging of an old-school off-road setup with modern amenities.

Body-On-Frame construction, two diesel engine options, and six-speed manual transmission... plus automatic terrain control and a panoramic sunroof. This thing just might make me move back to Australia.

While SUVs seem to be getting watered down into crossovers with fewer exceptions every year here in the US, Ford seems to think the market for a family people-mover with real off-road abilities still exists elsewhere in the world.

The 2015 Everest will go on sale in China, Australia, New Zealand, India, and other markets across the ASEAN region soon.

An introduction to Sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa is planned for shortly after that.

The seven-seat vehicle will be offered in 2WD or 4WD, with three engine options and your pick of an automatic or real, three-pedal, manual transmission Ford's still quiet on power and economy, but the engine lineup is a 2.0 EcoBoost gasoline and two Duratorq diesels: a 3.2 for maximum power, and a 2.2 for economy.

Towing will top out at 6,600 pounds with the big diesel engine. The Everest can carry around 1,600 pounds inside and another 220 on the roof.

But seriously, check out these off-road specs.

Just about 9" of ground clearance and stubby bumpers allow for an impressive 29º approach, 25º departing, and 21º ramp-breakover angle. Water-wading is even wilder; the diesel versions can press on through streams up to 31.5" deep.

Ford's Terrain Management System (TMS) has four distinct settings for optimizing the vehicle's configuration between "everyday roads, snow, sand (allows some wheelspin to carry momentum, late upshifts, early downshifts, increased pedal sensitivity), and extreme rocky terrain (reduced throttle sensitivity, mitigates wheelspin)."

The 4WD system with low range has an electronically locking differential, and is paired with a descent control that locks the torque converter to provide engine braking downhill. None of that "just hitting the brakes for you" bull****.

And of course, Ford's delightful digital "pitch and roll" gauge on the dash to show you how much the SUV is tipping.

This looks pretty darn good! I need a bigger car for my wife, my babies and my dogs soon. Any guesses how much this will go for?

Beijing: Production-spec 2015 Ford Everest (Endeavour) shown

American auto major Ford has unveiled the production-spec 2015 Ford Everest in Beijing. The 7-seat SUV will go on sale in markets such as China, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa in 2015.

For ASEAN markets the SUV will be built at AutoAlliance Thailand in Rayong, Thailand, while for China it will be made at by Ford’s Jiangling Motors Corp (JMC) joint venture at the JMC Xiaolan Plant in Nanchang, China.

The Everest is based on the Ford Ranger pick-up truck and uses a body-on-frame construction. The Everest features a bold trapezoid grille, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights front and rear skid plates, side steps and a roof-mounted rear spoiler.

On the inside the Everest features a new multifunction steering wheel a redesigned modern-looking dashboard, centre console with a new audio system and redesigned controls for the air-conditioning and round air vents at the extreme ends of the dashboard.

There are 30 stowage spaces, multiple power outlets, powered liftgate, split folding second and third row seats and a large moon roof.

The 2015 Everest gets Ford's SYNC 2 infotainment system. Driver assist features include curve control, roll stability control, lane departure warning and lane keeping aid, active park assist, curve control, blind spot information system with cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward alert with collision mitigation and an electronic stability program that works with traction control.

The car also comes with seven airbags.

Engine options for the Everest include a new 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder twin-scroll EcoBoost petrol and 2.2-litre 4-cylinder and 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel units.

The vehicle will be available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations, depending upon specific market demand.

The Everest gets a Terrain Management System with four preset settings - normal, snow/gravel/grass, sand and rock—that alter the vehicle’s throttle response, transmission, intelligent four-wheel drive system and traction control according to the terrain.

Drivers can manually lock the transfer case in low-range four-wheel drive if necessary. The SUV has a ground clearance of 225 mm, and water wading capabilities of 800 mm.

In India, the Everest is likely to be renamed as the Endeavour.

Ford is expected to assemble it locally from CKD kits imported from Thailand to keep costs in check.

The SUV will compete against the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

The Ranger double cab starts from R445 000, so I would guess at least R450 000 to R500 000.

Went by Ford this morning - we'll only see this by end 2015. Aint nobody got time for that!
