Well, story has been, if I connect my 6 pins of my 8800GT to the PSU, it goes off, and refuses to power on, ppl said it was the psu, but, eliminating everything exept the gfx and psu connections, same thing happens, someone suggested that the GFX card has went, and that most 8800 series cards are packing up now *planned obsolescence*

So I have R1k now, going to pcint, which one should I pick?

Geforce 9800GT 512MB DDR3 DVI HDMI - XFX R 862 excl. R 982 incl.

HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL DVI-I / TVO LITE R 1,049 excl. R 1,195 incl.

Reckon I should take my gfx card to the store, and have it tested at least, if it runs, its def the PSU..

Mind you I wouldnt mind picking up this puppy:

Geforce GTS 250 738Mhz 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI TV Edition XFX R 1,188 excl. R 1,354 incl.

:)

Is the GTS 250 > 8800GT much?

Nah...

Wonder if pcint carry much in store stock, anyone ever buy from them?

Eish what a shlep, going to have to driv there either today or tomorrow...

they are the cheapest in SA right?

got my 4870x2 from them too - it was like R1000 cheaper than the flea market even (which was second cheapest)

i'm not even gonna talk about rectron's, or frontosa'a bladdy prices on GFX cards

PcInt FTW!

Yea crazy, I just got off the phone with pcint, im in shock, wtf these people are cheaper than suppliers... FTW :D

Now im actually HOPING its my GFX card that failed and not the PSU :D haha

well if the psu went, then you wouldn't hear your cpu fans/etc power up when you switch your pc on (with the 3d card disconnected)

does the pc do anything if you connect everything except the gfx?

Yes mate, it runs 100 percent fine without the 8800 connected, you think the card might be shorting it?

Strange I wonder why all of a sudden the card would just start shorting the psu, I have to say though that the card was running at about 80 degrees pretty much all the time for 2 years...

My 8800 also started shorting my pc recently. Get the 4850.

If both are reference cards go for the 4850 if not GTS250, coz some manufacturers sweeten the deal pretty well with a good OC'd card

dude, plz dont get one of the nvidias.

the 9800GT has some benches where it performs SLOWER than the 8800GT, you wouldn't notice a difference.

The GTS250 is a rebranded 9800GT. You won't notice a difference.

The 4850 will murder those 2 cards.

OK got the 9800GT, wanted the 4850 but the guy gave me a look, then said they had no stock, lol, probably keeping the last one for himself.

came home, popped it in, running, at least, getting system temp warnings and the PSU is noisy...
