New graphics card wont work

So myself bought a new graphics card in anticipation of my new 4k display that I had ordered and the VGA doesnt seem to work in the desktop. I bought a EVGA - gtx 950 , pc is the i7 3700 series, running a Intel® Desktop Board DZ77BH-55K. Any one have any ideas what the issue could be, the computer starts up but just chills at the bios. I probably should have checked that the vga would be compatible but any way. I dont seem to be able to update the bios on the intel website either.
But logically this vga should work in the pc right?
 
Check if the video card requires external power, and if so, if you have connected it. Look at the top edge of the card, on the other side of the monitor connectors. Is there any sort of connector there? If so, it needs external power.

Another sign that it needs external power is that you will hear a high pitched whine from your PC's speaker. Is your PC's speaker connected? It's a useful debugging tool.

Do you see any screen output at all? Like, can you actually see the bios?

It needs 1x8 Pin.
 
the card does need a 8pin (which I plugged in last night) , my pc at the moment only has 6 pin plugs. The card came with an 8 pin adapter to 2x 6 pin plugs. I then took the two 6 pins on it and plugged it into it, nothing happend, but I suspect it was because both 6 pins were from one daisy chain (if that makes sense) so going to see if I have another 6 pin from a different cable that I can use at the same time as the existing 6 pin.

Pics please, you are making it sound very confusing.


Didnt it come with a 6+2 plug?

That could be the issue, since each "daisy chain" could be from the same rail....can you find another PC to chuck the card in...that comes with a 8pin plug by default?
 
Do you mean 6pin to 8pin? Does your PSU not have two 4pin power connectors?
 
Did you have onboard graphics before you installed the graphics card?

Did you enter the bios and tell it to use the pci-express slot for dedicated graphics?
 
OK problem solved, it's actually my dad's pc, he had fitted etc then relayed the issues to me, he hadn't updated the bios. Had to manually download the bios as it wouldnt update from the intel site directly. Once we did that it worked.
