I would also love to watch the PSL games. Its just very frustrating not to be able to understand the commentary. Otherwise I'd have been hooked.

Orlando Pirates FTW.

Funny how they are sleeping during the year, and now that the Christmas shopping season is in full swing start making promises again.

Oh happy days...

A dedicated sports channel changes things somewhat.. I might actually start looking at integrating DSTV into my mediacenter now...

AFAIK it's not possible to record the HD output from the decoder.

Dude press the language button and choose either English Original or English Family and you will hear english commentary. I watched some PSL match on the weekend, after 30 mins of listening to some zulu I remembered the language button. After that it was pretty decent...

Does anyone know when Multichoice are releasing a new HD PVR? Would be disappointing if I pick up the current HD PVR now and a new one is released a month or two later - especially if the new one has dual view.

The "new" one will have exactly the same features as the current one. Its just made "locally" by UEC rather than bought from Pace.

It will have a slightly faster processor, and from what I know that is about the only significant change, and it looks FUGLY.

Please share if you know something I don't. I'd love to do this as well.
From what I read, the HD signal is only accessible on the HDMI port and due to HDCP it cannot be recorded (yet?).

Hi guys,

just a quick correction - Multichoice currently broadcasts HD in 720p and 1080i. There are no plans however to broadcast in 1080p.

Sorry about that;)

Great to see movement in this space. I've spent the year chasing Multichoice for answers regarding an additional HD channel - nice to see that it has happened :)

With the September firmware update and the additional channel the HD service is definitely looking even more appealing!

No need to apologise Tom, 1080p broadcast is very very rare the world over.

Lets see. R3500 for the PVR decoder plus extra subscription costs of R60 per month gives me 2 HD channels and a buggy decoder. FAIL.

I'm only getting the HD PVR if they broadcast Portuguese soccer games on the HD sport channel. Otherwise, not really worth it for me...

I especially enjoyed this line:

"“We are pleased that we are able to make this viewing experience part of our DStv offering. High Definition is the new international television standard and MultiChoice would like to ensure that our customers are always kept abreast of new developments."

How on earth can you be claiming that you are keeping "abreast of new developments" when you only started broadcasting in HD at least 10 years after it was launched?

I'm sure they meant their developments, not the rest of the world. Apparently we live in a vacuum, and do not know what the rest of the world is doing, or, I'm sure, Multichoice would like to believe that.
