Lets see. R3500 for the PVR decoder plus extra subscription costs of R60 per month gives me 2 HD channels and a buggy decoder. FAIL.

Perhaps you should read the article
And the R60 is not for HD. If you want you can opt not to receive PVR functionality & save your R60

So what sort of output can you get from the HD PVR Decoder to record otherwise? Can I still use my current LG HDD recorder somehow?

Yes, you still have your SD outputs like RF, composite, scart, component (technically this can output HD signal but has been reduced to SD on the pvr because it can't be copy protected). You just can't rip high def signal unless you purchase a hdcp stripper like a hdfury.

In theory. Where are you going to use it if you dump multichoice?
@Nod ,listen you can't even use it(whats recorded on it) if you cancel the subscription as they de-activate the PVR playback :( , now thats really unfair
as what is on the device should be for your use, irrespective if you are subscribed ..

It can't even work responsively enough with you sitting directly in front of it, don't expect any more. Something very wrong, methinks. And some blame the hardware, the (same) Pace decoder works perfectly down under with other firmware

That is decided by the studios. They charge Multichoice for the recording capabilities on their PVR's. Therefor you get charged for it and they HAVE to de-activate playback if you are not paying for it. If you are not happy with this arrangement, you are focusing your energy at the wrong company.

How on earth can you be claiming that you are keeping "abreast of new developments" when you only started broadcasting in HD at least 10 years after it was launched?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television

Regular commercial HD broadcasting started about 3 years ago. That Wiki page is full of "plot holes". Direct TV, who is the biggest HD service provider started in 2007. They do have a 130 channels now though.

Frequency will be 11090 H. Can't find the Symbol Rate though... They were testing it with 30000 SR, but that has now changed.

I noticed this new transponder the other day. I hope they use it for a few extra SD channels and not just HD

Does anyone know when Multichoice are releasing a new HD PVR? Would be disappointing if I pick up the current HD PVR now and a new one is released a month or two later - especially if the new one has dual view.

As far as rumors go when chatting to sales reps, the new one will include 2xHD-View & 1xRecord.. Basically the same as the older Dual View, but only in HD.
* Not a trusted source though :)

As far as I heard, the new decoder will be launched early next year... That is why the current HD-PVR is on special.. trying to get rid of stock before launching the new one..
* Im wondering myself if I should buy one now, or will it get even more cheaper... since the new one is said to look FUGLY :)

The rumours are wrong.

The new UEC based HDPVR will be EXACTLY the same as the current Pace one in terms of functionality, aka View 1 Record 2... It just looks fugly and has a faster processor.

Just want to correct myself. They fired up a new transponder this week on frequency 11554 V. That is where the new HD channels will be broadcast. With MPEG4 compression, but still on DVB-S and not DVB-S2.

What the frequency 11554 V for Quantum Theory? I just didn't even do a rescan, just switched to 171 and it was working...It's now available or am I missing something?
