New iBurst Wireless Plus pricing revealed

It's late so I'm gonna need some clarification on a few things, first off congrats to iburst for competing with fixed line pricing and dropping the OOB rates :p

K I am on the 1gig package atm (if for any reason that needs to be known)

Just 1 question for now :)

The new products will however not have unlimited throttled bandwidth like some of the current iBurst product

So am I right in saying that if I move from my current package to the new one I will then get 2 gigs a month at the same price BUT without the 64kbps throttle?

If yes then this confuses me

A 64 Kbps All-day Uncapped service at R199 per month

If the new package is at that rate, essentially my current 1 gig with 64kbps throttle is the same price, now although 2 gigs would be nice. At the rate my family uses cap we normally hit that 1 gig mark within the 1st few days of the month, so 2 gigs will last around the 1st week of each month but then we wont have the 64k throttle to use the rest of the month.

So to sum all that up, if I was to move from my current 1 gig package at R199 to the new 2gig package at R198, do I lose the 64k throttle after I reach my cap?

agreed. It's not exactly clear. The iburst site doesnt reflect any of it yet in more detail.

Jannie please explain the options to us.

I'm currently on a 1giga package. @ R239 with the Desktop Modem UTD (which has 64K uncapped "throttled" afterwards)

What are my options? , or to what will my account be auto-migrated??

The way I understand it, is you have 2 (or 3) options:

1. R198 for 2GB, when you reach 2GB you get capped or pay R69/GB to top up.

or choose the other option/package:

2. A 64 Kbps All-day Uncapped service at R199 per month.

3. A 128 Kbps All-day Uncapped service at R249 per month.

Number 3 is starting to look good.

At 128 kbps, 24/7, How much can one download in a month?

Ok guys lemme give this a shot. Jannie Shaun correct me if I am wrong. There are the old and new packages.

The old packages remain the same but get a bigger cap and lower out of cap prices, no change to 64k throttle.

If you want to take advantage of the 128k uncapped you need to migrate to a new package which doesn't include the 64k, but can have the 64k or 128k bolted on.

Guys the 64k and 128k uncapped are bolt-on's now packages. If I understand this correctly the cheapest 128k uncapped would be 1gig package at R149 + R249 for 128 bolt-on.

In theory you could download 40 odd gigs in a month at 128kbps. The uncapped options are addons as far as I understad. Meaning you have to subcribe to one of the data packages then you can add on the uncapped service.

For R450 a month you can get 2gig bandwidth + 128kbps uncapped + your 1gig for gaming. Seem very reasonable to me.

Hey Mad I think that 128k for DL with shaping is still gonna suck. But when they release the after hours uncapped thats what you should look for. Still 128k will make my gaming and internet radio sing like a baby!

All in all , things are sounding positive.

I'll go for the 2gig bandwidth + 128K uncapped for R450 +- (remember that will not be your final price if your on a 24 month contract... as the modem's price must also be bolted on)

You know what, you guys are right. It's late at night and I'm half asleep...:o

I read the article again.

R198/2GB + R249/128 kbps = R447

Personally I prefer,

R198/2GB + R69 x 4GB = R474 for 6GB unthrottled. (I'm not a gamer)

So instead of paying R199 a month for 1gb at 1mbps throttled to 64kbs thereafter, I will now be paying

R60 : Subscription
R138 : 2gb @ 1mbps
R199 : 64kbs uncapped "value added" service,

for a total of R397?

So effectively I'm paying R198 for an extra gb of data, and I don't have an option about this?

Somebody please tell me I haven't quite woken up yet, that I need to have another cup of coffee, and that I misread and misunderstood that article.

Because if not things just got basically twice as bad at the entry level.

Well the article does say

The new products will however not have unlimited throttled bandwidth like some of the current iBurst products, but the company said that existing subscribers will have the option to remain on their contracts.

So sounds to me that you will have the option to leave your account unchanged.

Wonderful.

I can either pay double what I am now for a very minor increase in service - really, how far does a gb go? - or I can just carry on as I am now.

So, yeah.

Progress has been made.

Excuse me while I break out the pompoms and start dancing the ****ing can-can.

i'm not keen to lose throttled speed!

so looks like it has actually got more expensive!!!

i would like to stay on old pricing till end of my contract thank you!

The new pricing model further has an ‘out-of-bundle = in-bundle’ rate, resulting in significant savings to current subscribers who typically pay 95c per MB (R950 per GB) for out-of-bundle data.

Out of bundle was never R950/gb, am I missing something?

I think that would be the PPU rates.

So basically i will be paying more with the new packages. nice

For subscribers wanting to move to the new bundles, a number of bolt-on Value Added Services (VAS) are on offer, including uncapped services. With the launch of the new bundles two new uncapped services will be made available: A 64 Kbps All-day Uncapped service at R199 per month and a 128 Kbps All-day Uncapped service at R249 per month.

So now iam paying: R198 for 2Gig
64k unthrottled: R199
Total: R 397

Current
1Gig R199
extra 1 Gig R199
Total R398

So what the difs? A huge R1, and i have to pay R200 more to stay where i am now. Ill keep what i have thank you.

iBurst take your "new" packages and put it where the sun don't shine!

Thanks for messing up my day!

Actually, TBH, iBurst has come to the party - at least partially...

- they have decreased their addon per Gb rates, which people wanted
- they have allowed 128kbit uncapped (still shaped tho i guess), which people wanted

Which were the things people wanted, however they've basically seperated the two type of users (uncapped vs. happily limited high speed cap) users - at the cost of alienating the ones who wanted a combination of the two.

I cap out before the 10th of a month on 3gb/m then spend the rest (unless there's something speed critical) at 64kbit, an extra 8kb/s would be useful. 256Kbit would'a been nicer but we'll see what the other TBA offerings hold.

it's not quite a step in the right direction, but it's definitely a shuffle in the right direction. For the same cost as currently I'd lose 2Gb unlimited speed, but gain an extra 64kbit.

Jannie/Shaun, any chance of at least a hint about the higher unlimited all days TBA? I don't want to migrate, then migrate, then migrate while products are unrolled...
