On my Galaxy Tab, I tether via bluetooth or I can set my Tab as a WiFi hotspot and use WiFi. Done in seconds.
Surely Apple as a more expensive device can do this too.

Yes, I can do tethering on my GS2, but if you read through this thread you will have known this is a service provider thing.

Unfortunately Apple have carrier settings, this allows the carrier to decide which of these extended services will run on the network, unfortunately it requires the carrier to actually give a damn about the settings. Vodacon doesn't seem to give a damn!

Here is the problem. Why don't Apple allow all features on the device by default, and then only disable the features on those carriers that want them disabled?

They do, unfortunately when you put in and sim card or connect to itunes it checks for the latest settings and most people then just accept them.

Yeah, it keeps popping up until you accept. What I mean though, why aren't the features enabled in those carrier settings by default, except for those carriers that want them disabled?

If you search you'll find similar threads for network operators all over the world.

I'm not sure what the default would be, but I guess this all comes back from when AT&T were in bed with Apple and started dictating terms.

...Using Vodacom that APN would be "iphone.vodacom.za" . However , this does not work for the New iPad. The reason it's not functioning is actually not a fault by Vodacom, Apple is restricting the iphone.vodacom.za APN and Vodacom needs Apple's blessing in order for their subscribers to use Personal Hotspot on the New iPad regardless if the feature works on the iPhone. Vodacom is currently in negotiations with Apple on a high level to bring Personal Hotspot to the New iPad on Vodacom and from what I heard from it's going well , we should see the feature enabled on New iPads on Vodacom later on , they couldn't give me an ETA on when this will happen.

They have been saying this for about 3 months already. As for the APN as i understand it you need to be provisioned by vodacom to use the Iphone.vodacom.co.za apn. then the apn will work. i bought a ipad sim from vodacom but can only use Internet apn.

Why do we not get feedback from the vodacom rep????
