Nope, in this case Apple must make the settings available that'll enable WiFi sharing. If we could, it would've worked from day 1.

So if I can sum this up then: you've submitted the carrier settings to Apple and you're waiting for them to push it out?

How long is it supposed to take once you've submitted the changes?

Jannie is wrong. Vodacom must get the option enabled in the Vodacom carrier profile. If they cannot enable it, then they (Vodacom) probably don't have the proper licensing agreement in place.

If you are such an expert on the Apple and Mobile Provider relationship, then please let us in on the details. Your statement implies that neither MTN or Cell C have any agreement in place either, which is false. In fact the only provider whom it is working for is 8ta because they don't have an agreement with Apple and thus no carrier bundle on the Apple server to lock down hotspot. -> See edit.

No one who actually knows what the story is is giving any real details and that's probably due to the fat NDA they have to sign with Apple. I'm inclined to believe Jannie when he says Vodacom wants hotspot enabled so they can sell more data. I just don't understand why it was available on iPhone shortly after release and not with the iPad 3rd gen. The carrier bundle sitting on the Apple server is clearly disabling the feature and even version 13.0 in iOS 6 locks it down. Someone is dragging their heels...

Edit: Given subsequent reading I've done after bwana's comments and digging around in the XML page with the carrier bundles I'll add that I suspect there are 2 different agreements. One for iPhone and another for iPad. MTN, CellC and Vodacom have agreements for selling iPhones. Any store can sell iPads, but from a mobile provider point of view only 8ta, MTN and Vodacom have iPad carrier bundles sitting on the Apple servers.

Anyway this just adds more questions than answers.

I'd love to know how to get it working on 8ta! I've tried everything I could think of including a clean reinstall without updating the carrier settings.

Why do you say 8ta doesn't have a carrier bundle? It seems to have one if I look in the settings.

I'm basing that on a discussion I had with ginggs. Will see if I can find the relevant post(s).
