Can someone tell me why I should buy expensive name brand baby bottles instead of cheap supermarket alternatives?

Honestly, I don't know. My "friend" says his wife freaks out if product is not BPA free. So I (I mean my friend) always buys BPA free product.

Better flow and less gas causing discomfort for the little one because of the airhole the years provide.. I have not seen this on supermarket bottles and we noticed a huge difference between two name brand bottles in this regard..

No medical advice, but a place to teach others from your mistakes or victories. Which products work and which are crap, as experienced by yourselves. How do you keep them happy or get them to sleep? What is acceptable and what is BS in your opinion?

Waste of money really. When your kid decides to walk, she/he will walk with help of whatever you have around your house - you, furniture, oil heater (with roller wheels) and so on. 7 kids I know of personally (around my son's age at a playgroup we go to) never made use of walker. Funny is once my son started climbing the cottage style windows, he used walker (for fun). :ROFL: :ROFL:

I co-sign this, our little one first used to table to stand, now she holds onto whatever she can to get around

Differant babies, differant bottles. One of mine loved nuk and the other tomee. If it's one fact every parent needs to learn, each child is differant an there is no one size fits all. It's pretty much experimentation.

Agreed, which is why I didn't initially bring up the brands.. my reply was mainly around the ventilation hole the name brand bottles have vs the supermarket versions..

This. Our kid refused to latch properly on any bottles except Pigeon. Nurses and Pead recommended it. Now that he's older, the Tommee Tippees are being used, but my advice for new parents - don't buy ANY bottles until the baby is ready to start drinking from them. Then buy one from each brand, one at a time, starting with Pigeon, to see what the baby takes. Then you know without spending thousands.
 
Oh yes, and another thing. Bottles with ventilation holes on the side of the teat (like Pigeon), if you twist on the cap too tightly, you lose a lot of the functionality of the ventilation hole. Only screw it on tightly enough to not leak, otherwise the vent won't work. It's not an issue with Tommee Tippee bottles.
And another thing. Tommee Tippee makes something called a "milk powder pot". This stuff here: https://www.loot.co.za/product/tomm...AkB-PeAc--Q6gSzHL5oaAtdAEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

GET THEM. Get like, 6 at least. These things are amazing. If you have a narrow-necked bottle like a Pigeon or Nuk (and others), then you'll know how hard it is to get the milk powder from the little scoop into the neck without spilling everywhere. This makes it a lot easier. I scoop into this little thing, snap on the lid and then pour into the bottle. Also prevents steam from making the scoop all sticky.

It holds up to 150ml's worth of powder (from NAN milk powder) easily, 180ml with a bit of a squeeze. Pre-measure, take along, etc. Only take as much as you need, not the whole thing like with others I've seen. They're small, very easy to clean and pours into bottles like a dream. Really. Get those. Even if you don't have Tommee Tippee bottles. Actually, especially if you don't have Tommee Tippee bottles.

PS: If you do have Tommee Tippee bottles, these little holders drops into the bottles and you can screw on the lid, so you can clean your bottles, measure the milk powder, put the pot in the bottle and screw on the cap. At drinking time, just unscrew the bottle top, take out the pot, pour in the water, pour in the milk powder and give to baby. Easy peasy.

We went with NUK and the little guy was rejecting it completely.
Tried teets we got with a breast pump which kinda worked and then also bought pigeon teets which he started drinking from immediately.
No need to change the bottles.

But they make for great and cheap seats for feeding time.

We bought bottles and teets since the pigeon teets wouldn't fit the tommee tippee bottles we had..
