Just got the following SMS from Telkom:

Dear Telkom LTE customer, our LTE uncapped services are governed by an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). Telkom reserves the right to apply restrictions if a customer's behaviour is deemed to affect the experience of other LTE users on the network. Please note that Telkom will start to implement the AUP from September 2016. Your current usage puts you at risk to be impacted by the policy, which may lead to throttling. Go to http://telkom.site/AUP to view the AUP. T&Cs apply. Telkom Team.

AUP looks the same as the original one. Not quite sure what limits they deem to be abusive. I don't use the LTE account for any P2P stuff. Most usage is for streaming. General monthly usage has averaged 150GB with a once off month of 250GB. So far on 70GB this month so on track to hit 150GB again. Wonder what threshold of the "uncapped" usage triggers this notification? Anyone else get it?

Also got it, but have no idea what part of my usage may be affected... Thanks telkom

Did you get the message on the router?

Yes.

Chatting to one of the Telkom agents on the online chat who is talking herself into a circle... initially said the AUP is 100GB and then throttled and then proceeds to show me the FUP and 50GB P2P limit. Now is backtracking and telling me everything is 50GB. Wasted my time 'cos she clearly has no clue what she is talking about.

Got the same message and i havent even used any p2p.

But here are a few things you need to know:
Uncapped wireless broadband is really uncapped for almost all applications and uses. These include email, browsing, streaming traffic like video, music, YouTube, AppleTV, Box Office, Netflix, VPN, VOIP, real time online gaming, backups and gaming downloads.

For these you will never be capped and throttled. This means consumers will enjoy the full benefit of a truly unlimited experience with Telkom's LTE Uncapped service. Telkom's 50GB fair usage policy cap ONLY applies to Bit Torrent traffic via peer to peer and news servers protocols (NNTP).

This is what they say and if they start to throttle people for normal browsing gaming and streaming then surely this is a case from ICASA against them for doing so ?

Also got the same SMS in my router. I did read through and the FUP is exactly the same unless I missed something.....

According to a live chat jockey, the message was sent to all unlimited subscribers. There will be hell to pay if this service suddenly becomes unusable 10 days into September...

They do now say on their website all this AUP stuff etc but im worried does that mean they can just slow all your speeds no matter what you doping streaming gaming etc or will they slow certain things kinda like Afrihost did they would slow p2p and something else but always have youtube full speed etc on their uncapped Adsl packages

I'm not phased, if they put a limit they should put a generous one like 500gb or something. I'm more interested in speed and quality of the connection.

I suppose Telkom are tired of people complaining all over the place about low speeds and high pings, whilst backing up the internet.

If they throttling my streaming I'll be incredibly peeved. The whole idea of moving to LTE was for streaming purposes.

If it does I will not hesitate to lay a complaint at ICASA. I agreed to the FUP.

Well guess we are going to see a huge ****storm coming this September if i had to guess they will probably now throttle all protocols after 50GB

Got nothing this side (yet)

Your measly 24 gigs so far this month puts you well below the threshold. :crylaugh:

Those of you that have received the sms, what sort of usage have you done so far this month.

I got the sms on both my accounts 140 gigs and 200 gigs respectively.

156GB so far, that's only streaming. 30mb on p2p.

Wow, you the new record holder for lowest usage qualifying for warning sms.

Strange goings.. Even if previous month usage is counted. Rarely pass 150gb so curious as to what the problem is.

AUPs haven't been updated either.. Nice fail there from Telkom
