New LTE AUP from September 2016

In the email I managed to get a couple of email address of people in charge of these AUP discussions you guys are more than welcome to pm me for the email addresses :)

Would be more than happy if you could keep us in the loop, lets not bombard them to the point that they're staggered but please point them to this forum where most of us just kindly request a more fair AUP and that we are not unreasonable :)

I would like you to ask them, if part of the problem they have is people hosting on this? I noticed many incoming ports are open including 80 and 443 and if you're in a nice fast area you could get away with pushing some nice (and CHEAP) bandwidth on hosting a file-sharing server over HTTP or streaming or whatever else...

Nice to see they are working on a few changes. 12 to 7am not counting would be a game changer for me. I don't mind scheduling things overnight.

It would be a game changer for many, but not all. The only data moved in our home at those hours would be some Redditing on nights the [-]little selfish bastard[/-] toddler wakes us.

But they do honestly seem like they want to find the best compromise but had to implement the throttling because of people doing way too much data I suspect that their network can handle slowing things down.

Waiting to hear from Greg tomorrow and see what they come up with but does not look like the 250GB throttle will stay for long but will see what happens.

A reasonable FUP would be full speeds to 500GB, then 10Mbps to 700GB then 4Mbps to 900GB then capped 256Kbps
This way you are not left with no TV after 2 weeks and it would seem closer to an acceptable workaround that would
throw the 2.5TB type users of the system.

I don't want a time to schedule downloads because I don't download.

someone get duct tape, this one is speaking against us! ;-)

No, DA-LION-619 is on the money - NEVER was this product offered to us for "downloading". Downloading would usually take the form of torrents, NNTP or, those that thought they would be clever, HTTP from seedboxes..

The product is for streaming "all you can eat". Some of you now want a nightsurfer option and you will then be happy with the throttling - WTF? That makes no sense! So you can torrent bef%k during nightsurfer but you will still get throttled to death if you Youtube/Netflix too much during normal hours!

Stick with the objective people. The throttling needs to be sensible. Set a higher threshold for legitimate usage, and then throttle in staggered intervals like was mentioned by ToxicBunny: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ember-2016?p=18351558&viewfull=1#post18351558

250GB to me seems reasonable especially for the people on the R599 bracket. People go bos and LTE get's congested very quickly. So the throttle should be higher so everyone can download at slower speeds?

It's tough because people don't give a **** that it's shared bandwidth if they can use it all they would and that is understandable from Telkom's point of view.

3 families streaming each on 3 devices will hog tower bandwidth. What about the rest of the people? What about me just trying to play game. Why should your family get priority over my gaming?

You know what I'm saying? Where do you draw the line and how do you pick who to please and who should get and who not?

The throttle was solution to bring traffic down and speed up for the rest of the people but it's not working....

Why should price matter? I signed up right in the beginning, Telkom shouldn't have over subscribed.

I just want to be able to stream as promised.

Exactly. 2 of my 3 are at homes - they need to be able to buffet-stream Netflix and Youtube.

My third is at the office. I want my staff to do however much browsing, social media and youtube that they want without worrying that there will come a point every month where our work related activities, like online portals and email are slow as fluck because now we are throttled.

Wait what now? Because I was an early adopter and only pay R599, I must be happy with 200GB of UNCAPPED usage? For the first time, I completely disagree with you CD!

Then we should have paid more. It's either oversubscribed and cheap or flippen expensive with lower contention. It's the reality it's LTE not fibre. it's limited. The best Telkom can do is to go LTE-A but limited spectrum again hampers any progress in fixed wireless broadband.
