8GB will run just fine with your very basic requirements.

Free memory is not an indication of anything on a Mac.

Source I had one of the first 8GB M1’s in the country and ran it for about a year and never once overloaded it with a pretty hectic workload far exceeding your basic concerns.

Well, I was curious so I downloaded TraderView to do a like for like.

I opened Chrome, added 7 random tabs.

I ran TraderView.

I thought I'll open Safari as well and opened 3 tabs.

Then I thought I'd open a spreadsheet in Numbers just for the hell of it.

I flicked through them all quickly opening each tab one after the other and randomly selecting the apps as I went.

Long story short, when I first opened Chrome without adding a tab, the Memory Used barely changed to the screenshot you see here.

..., is not so simple maths at all.

For a start, you've got a 16GB machine so where does it say your Mac can't hold 8GB? As @backstreetboy said, you have the memory sitting doing nothing so the machine is going to use it. And when you have less RAM as I do, the machine copes very well because, well, it's absolutely not "simple math".

Tradingview is very RAM intensive. Now we know you're trolling. You haven't got the patience to learn how to use the M2 Pro's amazing trackpad, but you're a trader. Don't quit your 9-5er.

Same as Android and Windows... My Lollipop phone never got Google assistant baked into the launcher and it got the assistant a year late as well. My Windows XP box updated to Vista never got Aero. My Android TV stick didn't get the Google TV interface. My Huawei GT2e watch never got third party app support since it didn't launch outside of China. My Acer Travelmate of 2008 never could run Windows 64 bit even though the processor supported it. My work Dell laptop can't run Android apps even though it's on Windows 11. My Google Home Minis don't support Apple Music since it's a US only feature.

What else are regional locks than not giving you the same OS? Just like my Siemens coffee machine that even advertises the cup warmer on the box but the version we get here doesn’t have it.

Apple tell you they’ll offer you the latest & greatest OS for many many years - no other phone does that.

Die hard fans believe it - and they think their iPhones from years back, are the same iOS. The same with tvOS. Someone told me the other day that he’ll get updates for a decade, do he doesn’t have to worry about anything.

And although they SAY this and LABEL the software updates the same - they’re all different? My iPhone is not even 2 years old and doesn’t offer . My neighbour iPhone 14 is 4 months old - and the iPhone 15 does things he can’t do.

My Apple TV is running the same tvOS as yours. But I can’t run the same things.

It’s like Google saying they’ll support every device for 10 years and push Android 14 to everything, but just cut features.

It’s very different to a regional block on features. And most people can see this … but that bias tendency you have is maybe the reason you don’t want to believe it?

Someone with an iPhone XS asked me the other day about a feature.

I tried explaining to her that although it SAYS we have the same update and Apple SAYS her phone is the same - we have to Google to see what we have. And there was no guarantee of what will happen ios18 …. The iPhone 15 may not have the same features

She couldn’t understand that iOS 17 is not the same. And that she was planning an iPhone 14 with iOS 17 … and yet the iPhone 15 had more settings

I think it’s just the expectation created and the people that really believe it. Like you
