New MacBook prices for SA

I've used Apple notebooks belonging to friends and the trackpad is nothing special, nor are the trackpad gestures.

Of course they are. No Windows laptop comes close.

Another fact to help your imagining as to why people buy MacBooks.

Absolute hilarious that people would pay this.

Isn't OSX free? Hackintosh FTW

Whats the point of a hackingtosh? What benefit does it give you over a standard Windows setup if you don't need Mac apps?

Either buy a Mac or get a PC.

The only way a Windows or OS X system can navigate faster than how I do currently is if it knows what I want to do before I do myself. Navigation is not an issue. I don't care how much fun you have swiping all over the place.

How exactly do you edit images and videos and play games with a trackpad anyway? It must be fun constantly switching your mouse and mousepad around with a trackpad.

The multi-gesture trackpad / mouse is useful for navigation shortcuts. You do miss it if you are used to it.

It provides no benefit for games though.

Uhm
....

The software, the software is the only thing that sets it apart.

How do you edit? Well, you take your finger and…

Wait, was that a trick question?

Well editing images and videos, and playing games, would be a helluva lot better than on Windows laptops, because they cannot come close to Apple quality. Which is one reason why people would buy Macs. Because they're better than Windows laptops. Which is why they're rated as the best laptops to run Windows on, etc.

Used a Mac touch pad?

Not for more than a few minutes in total, would be my guess.

I bought my macs more for the hardware than the software, and was pretty much using windows 90% of the time.

The last year or so, I've been using OS X about 80% of the time even though theres a few things that annoy me.
Having a decent'ish version of MS Office helps a lot.

I have a 13" MBP Retina with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I run Parrallels with Windows 8.1 100% of the time. So I basically run Windows and OSX - best of both - at all times. I highly recommend this, since there are some things that are just better in Windows - I can run native MS Office for example. Why they don't sell the 16GB RAM version in SA.. I don't know.

And with the Coherence mode in Parrallels, you don't even know Windows is there - no need for a traditional VM and no real reason to have to choose between Windows and OSX (such as using Bootcamp). Throw in Start8 for the Windows 8.1 start menu and you're sorted :)

You can order the 16GB version, but there's a 6 week wait according to the iStore.
Your custom Macbook will cost well over 20k here, so there's not going to be a store that wants to stock too many of them.

They do. I bought my MBP with 16GB of RAM from Digicape. You just have to ask for it.

Nice, good to know for when (or hopefully rather if) I need to claim for a replacement from the insurance company. Got mine at BH Photo Video for under R20k back when the exchange rate was better... R11.80. Although, I see the USD price has come down a bit - and we get screwed.

My main problem is no Kensington lock slot .. so looking at Maclocks, but don't want to risk it with the shipping so looking for a local supplier. I'll try Digicape.

I bought my 15" from the UK for R4700 less than core's price. :o

Let me know if you find a local supplier - I regularly have to leave mine unattended :o

And how does that affect the Macbook?

I can find quite controversial doccies on Boeing and Microsoft for instance too, but it has no relevance on a specific product.

Sure, focus on Apple and ignore just about every other electronics company manufacturing in China…

The search function in finder is nothing short of atrocious. Everything else though is great.

Wat?

Spotlight is the most beautiful thing I have ever used on both OSX and iOS and it's fast as well.

Sorely missed on Vensters.

Finder Search, not Spotlight, which is a godsend.

That said, I have no problems with Finder Search, love it.
