New MacBook prices for SA

Spotlight is good - not quite Quicksilver good but good enough that I no longer install it.

Finder search is a ugly mess though.
 
Can't say I've needed Finder search since Spotlight first appeared in 10.4 I think I was.

If I really need something I use the terminal.
 
What does a 27 iMac cost and a good quality Mac book pro cost over seas compared to local ?

I always use bhphotovideo to compare, cheaper than from apple themselves. Useless in this case, unless you can fit the iMac in a suitcase.

I worked out you only need to buy 2 high end macbooks to cover the cost of a flight ticket to go pick them up (and not get caught at customs). Pretty crazy.

We get shafted so hard with electronics prices in this country, and that's not even counting how hard the rand is plummeting.

I know a handful of people still running 2008 iMacs... Daily use, even for graphic design and photo editing. With 2GB RAM. The machines still fly. OS X.

People buy into a quality lifestyle, the fist Mac I owned was a used 2007 MacBook, handed down to me from my brother ('A Tech Destroyer') in 2009. I then managed to get a new MB Pro in 2011 and gave the MB to a mate who is still using it daily without issues (hardware or software), 8 years and 3 owners later. Mac's are built to work and last.
 
Is using a Macbook or iMac really practical though? For instance if you have Android devices and you wanna use things like ADB or Odin or even productivity software? I don't know much about Apple's OS so I may come off as ignorant on this. Enlighten a brother:p

If you're still using productivity software that relies on physical connection between the phone and PC you're doing it wrong :D

Lol, obviously the two examples I mentioned are mutually exclusive. As far as I know you still need to physically connect your phone to the computer if you want to flash it or usr ADB.

It was an Apple joke...

Software like Odin is Windows specific, but there are equivalents out there (such as heimdall). ADB setup is pretty straightforward across all major desktop operating systems.

Either way, you'll be fine. Worst comes to worst, you could always fire up a VM and perform what you need to there.

Okay. Seems a bit silly though. Having to use a VM and work-arounds after spending so much amo on the Mac. Maybe that's just me *shrugs*
