The first Geekbench 6 benchmark results for the M4 Pro chip surfaced today. Impressively, the results that are available so far show that the highest-end M4 Pro chip is faster than the highest-end M2 Ultra chip in terms of peak multi-core CPU performance.

  • Mac mini with M4 Pro (14-core CPU): 22,094 multi-core score (average of 11 results)

  • Mac Studio with M2 Ultra (24-core CPU): 21,351 (average of more than 600 results)

That is some truly epic gains:
"What this means is that you can now purchase a Mac mini with a 14-core M4 Pro for $1,599 in the U.S. and get similar to faster peak performance than a Mac Studio with the 24-core M2 Ultra, a configuration that starts at $3,999.

As for year-over-year performance improvements, the M4 Pro is up to 45% faster than the highest-end M3 Pro chip in terms of multi-core CPU performance, based on the Geekbench 6 results that are available so far."

It’s truly impressive. Studio I’m guessing will have to be max and ultra only if an M4 version is released?

I hope retailers offer the upgraded M4 Pro chip without the hassle and extra cost of a custom order.
 
Anxioiusly waiting for the SA prices for the new Macbook Pro's to drop...
Macnificent published their iMac and Mac Mini 2 days after Apple announced them in the US, but nothing yet on the Macbooks...

Work requires 32GB of RAM, otherwise I don't get my full laptop allowance.
So gonna have to get a M4 Pro with 48GB, or an M4 Max with 36GB (or a M3 vanilla with 32GB).
 
Noticed iStore have no MacBook Pros in stock. I think they’re updating the site for the M4 release.

Except in SA.

Still nothing on iStore (although they've now listed the iMac and Mac Mini) nor Macnificent.

Pretty much is if you consider even what Intel/AMD produces from generation to generation for a single core or overall with similar core counts in terms of their performance.

Yes and no. Apple's strength lies in how well the OS is designed with the Hardware. Hence also why the exceptional battery life. I'm currently working on an Intel i9 for my Architectural software and its pure bliss. Windows 11 absolutely sucks though (or maybe it's Dell on top of Windows, who knows.).

The Windows Snapdragon laptops also get 10h + in real world battery tests. Pretty good.
