New MacBook Pro with M4

Yes and no. Apple's strength lies in how well the OS is designed with the Hardware. Hence also why the exceptional battery life. I'm currently working on an Intel i9 for my Architectural software and its pure bliss. Windows 11 absolutely sucks though (or maybe it's Dell on top of Windows, who knows.).
The user experience and integration is one thing. Performance is another as Arm is simply much lower TDP under load.

I was typing up a price list lol - Hope I got it all and correct...

And then only 1 year warranty?

New week, new Macbooks.

Except in SA.

Still nothing on iStore (although they've now listed the iMac and Mac Mini) nor Macnificent.

Chatted with Sales. Rep at the local IStore the 16GB M2, M3 will start shipping Black Friday , Cyber Monday early Christmas week.

You mean a contract?
Most of iStore's products have the option of an iCare warranty which is their version of AppleCare you bolt onto your purchase at various costs based on the product you're purchasing... They sometimes throw it in for free for specials etc.

It's generally :
1. 3 Year Warranty (No Screen damage repairs if it has a screen) at a fixed cost upfront
2. 3 Year Warranty with one Screen repair at a fixed cost upfront.
3. A fee per month which offers the same as #2 renewed annually.

As an example for a MB PRO 14 base it's
1. R1499 for 3 years
2. R2999 for 3 years (Screen repair is R2500 service fee. )
3. R129 per month (Not familiar with this tbh)

So interestingly enough, I jotted down prices for the M3s comparing Macnificent and US Apple (e.g. website prices) and compared them. It consistently came to 23 ZAR / USD (of course, locally including VAT and in the US excluding VAT, and the Core tax you pay in SA).

I did the same for the M4 iStore prices and it comes out to 22 ZAR / USD. So they actually became a bit cheaper :)

(This is based on all the current M4 Pro/Max machines and a subset of the M3 Pro machines - mostly the ones I were interested in)

Hopefully this would be a good indication of what it would cost to do a custom order too.

Why dont they offer the 14" with 48gb ram in South Africa? I asked IStore sales rep, he just said "we dont offer it". Its available on the US, Japan, China, etc Apple Store...

I'm sure you can custom order it if you asked?
You can. I'm literally in an email conversation with Macnificent about this.

Core just brings in the default options into SA - literally the options that you see on Apple's US website without any customizations.

E.g. if you look at these two 14" M4 Pro's on Apple's page:

These are the two that you can "configure" on iStore's site for the M4 Pro 14" MBP.

For people who have the notch-screen Mac, how irritating is it? Do you notice it on the daily, or is it a non-issue? Just curious because these M4s are otherwise really tempting.

It doesn't bother me, I stopped seeing it at some point.

Work requires 32GB of RAM, otherwise I don't get my full laptop allowance.
So gonna have to get a M4 Pro with 48GB, or an M4 Max with 36GB (or a M3 vanilla with 32GB).
Do they allow you to buy lightly used? You could always get 64GB ;)

GLWS. Tough price bracket for any device. You've put it on carb?

Interesting. I wonder if iStore will custom order models down...

I tried to order a custom Mac Mini through iStore - they aren’t taking custom orders on any of the new products until after the pre-order stage. I can’t really think of a logical reason for this.

Went through ShopAndShip / Macnificent instead and the process has been smooth so far.

95 % of the time my Mac is connected to a super ultra wide monitor. So it's closed, it doesn't impact me heavily.

Does anybody know if you earn eBucks when ordering custom orders via the iStore?
