New MacBook Pro with M4

Why wouldn’t you?
I have no idea who bills you and how FNB picks up that it was indeed an iStore order.

I'm assuming they look at your transactions and identify iStore, at which point you get allocated eBucks. If the custom order is issued by say "Core SA" or a subsidiary of theirs who isn't iStore, then would it still be counted?

Ask in the eBucks thread. But also, wasn't there some promotion with iStore and eBucks if you buy on the app?

Will do.

Not sure about a promotion, but I doubt I'd be able to do a custom order via the FNB app. And as mentioned elsewhere in the thread, I need a specific minimum amount of RAM which isn't available with the standard models sold in SA, unless I go for an M4 Max, which I don't need and don't want to spend the money on.

Ah, right. Forgot about the RAM thing.

Yeah, don't see a custom order working on the FNB app... but here's the Ts&Cs for that Promo as I already dug it up.

I guess it says 60% off because I'm on PC. PW gets 100% back.

So basically (on PW), you buy an Apple device for R24k and only pay R3587 (the interest cost)

OK, Macnificent now actually has the M4 Macbooks available.

I also emailed them about customer orders, pretty helpful. Couple of additional things:
1) 3 weeks wait time, which is pretty good
2) Pretty much the USD price x 23 to get to the ZAR value
3) You can add the nano texture display for R3,500 (150 USD x 23 = R3450, Macnificent quoted met R3,500).

Watching a couple of videos now, deciding if the nano-texture is worth it or not.

Macnificent is hands down the best option for custom orders right now. I’ve compared quotes from other retailers and Macnificent comes in cheaper. iStore probably won’t even provide quotes for another 1-2 weeks, plus the 6-8 week wait time.

Yeah, the only pain is that the iStore warranty gets an option for a screen repair, while everybody else's standard Core warranties come without screen repair options.

Phoned digicape too and their warranties are without screen repair.

I phoned the iStore and yes, they said it will be a three business days before they even reply on my quote.

For those interested - I know I mentioned parallels in this thread but the new update is pretty cool - especially the support for Windows Server VMs.

Parallels Desktop 20 for Mac 20.4.0 (55980)

Parallels Desktop for Mac 20.4.0 (55980) update addresses the overall stability and security issues and includes the following additions and improvements:

Windows

  • Introduces support for using Dragon Medical One macros (step-by-step commands) in Mac apps (e.g. Epic Hyperspace).
  • Introduces support for creating and running Windows 10 22H2 and Windows Server 2019 virtual machines in x86 emulation mode on Apple silicon Macs.
  • Fixes the issue that prevented Windows virtual machines from packing successfully in preparation for transfer on Macs running macOS Sequoia 15.
  • Fixes the issue that produced black screens when waking a Windows 11 virtual machine from sleep mode on Intel Macs.
  • Fixes the issue that prevented the “Send with Windows Email App” feature from working correctly with Microsoft Outlook when attempting to send a file from your Mac using the Windows virtual machine email client.

Linux

  • Fixes the issue that occasionally prevented unarchiving Linux virtual machines on Macs running macOS Sonoma 14.
  • Fixes the issue that prevented Ubuntu 25.04 virtual machines with Parallels Tools for Linux installed from accessing files in the host Mac’s shared folders.
  • Fixes several issues that prevented Debian 12, Ubuntu 24.x, RHEL 9, and Mint 22 from being installed in x86 emulation mode on Apple silicon Macs.
  • Fixes the issue that caused black screens when moving app windows in Ubuntu 24.04.

macOS (as a virtual machine)

  • Improves the network implementation for macOS virtual machines running on Apple silicon Macs, resolving multiple issues with VPN clients.
  • Fixes the implementation of “host-only” network configuration on macOS virtual machines. In this mode, the macOS virtual machine can only connect to the host Mac and its other virtual machines but is invisible from the outside.
  • Fixes the issue that affected various Parallels Tools for Mac functionality (including drag-and-drop, copy-and-paste, network sharing, and more) on macOS virtual machines on Intel Macs running macOS Sequoia 15.4 and newer.
  • Fixes the virtual network adapter configuration issue, which affected network connectivity and virtual machine cloning in macOS virtual machines on Intel Macs.
  • Fixes the issue that affected the speed of switching between snapshots of macOS virtual machines.

Parallels Desktop 20.4.0 for Mac Business & Enterprise Edition

  • Fixes the issue that prevented virtual machines from reporting back to the Enterprise Edition monitoring portal.
  • Fixes the issue that prevented Parallels deployment packages from unpacking correctly when distributed via Jamf.

What will be Deprecated or Removed from Parallels Desktop soon

According to statistics from users who participate in the Parallels Customer Experience program, some product features are rarely used or not at all. We have decided to either stop supporting them or altogether remove them from Parallels Desktop and focus on frequently used features and further enhancements.

Below is a list of features that are no longer supported in Parallels Desktop 20.4.0 and newer versions and have been removed:

  • Setting CPU, disk I/O, and network quotas and extended memory limits manually.
Below is the list of features that are no longer supported and will be removed – not in version 20.4.0, but in the next major version of Parallels Desktop for Mac:

  • Shared Bluetooth functionality. Bluetooth devices connected to your Mac will continue to work in the virtual machines normally.
  • USB and network kexts (kernel extensions). This deprecation affects virtual machines that run on Intel Macs using Parallels hypervisor; such virtual machines will continue to support USB and network adapters in kextless mode.
  • Installing Parallels Desktop on Macs running macOS Monterey 12.
  • Archiving a virtual machine. Prepare for Transfer will be the new default method to save space and transfer a virtual machine.
  • Deferred activation.
  • Travel mode.
  • Free Up Disk Space menu option. You will still be able to save space using other options.
  • Designating a custom update server in the deployment package settings.
  • Synchronization of virtual machine color tags between the Parallels Desktop Control Center and macOS Finder.
  • Support for “Require Password to…” settings in the Security tab of the virtual machine settings. We recommend organizations that rely on this functionality to use the Policies menu in the Parallels Management Portal available in Parallels Desktop for Mac Enterprise Edition.
  • Converting/cloning to a template. We recommend using the “Clone” menu option.
  • The option to install Parallels Toolbox for Windows in a Windows virtual machine using the Parallels Desktop menu.
