New Macbooks launched

If the other guys aren't starting to produce notebooks with 1920 x 1200 resolution I will have to buy a Mac too.
I think Dell allows for such a display but in the shops all machines seem to be stuck on the pathetic 1280 x 1024 or at best 1440 x 1050 resolution.

OH MY GOSH...what is myadsl turning into? It's all Mac this apple that..****..this is South Africa, 99% of the people use PC's..and if I see one more iphone article I'm going to puke..no come on seriously there has to be more exiting news than just this over sized label releasing an new product sure its grand, sure its solid piece of aliminimum but dear god this is South Africa where some people can hardly afford there retroviral drugs or food.

The new laptops are awesome to say the least.

But in saying that, my favourite part is the impeccably produced promo video on their site. :p

All that perfectionism propoganda is appealing, if i had the cash i'd be compelled to buy one.

This part of the launch event was hilarious...
10:01AM Tim Cook: "Good morning -- our last reported quarter we sold 2.5m Macs. In several quarters in a row we've been growing 2/3x the market growth."

10:02AM "Why? Superior computers -- they're far superior to anything on the market." Now he's going through the line, iMacs, Air... "And with those better computers comes better software... like Leopard, like iLife, and products like iWork."

10:03AM "Third reason: compatibility. When people looked at macs in the past, they were concerned about switching -- we fixed that with Boot Camp. We also work with third parties on productions like Fusion and Parallels." Windows on an iMac. "Frankly this sends a shiver up my spine." Big laughs.

10:04AM Ouch -- "The next up is something we didn't do -- Vista." Big laughs. "I think it's fair to say Vista hasn't lived up to everything Microsoft hoped it would -- and this has given us a door in."

I couldn't agree more, the truth must hurt for the MS fanboys :)

This is too awesome man, i'm sold! Whens its coming to SA? Anyone hear anything ? I heard its on sale today in the USA, which is pretty cool!

They have to pay the bills. And it looks like Core (importers of Apple and Nintendo products) pay quite a lot to get their stories on the front page :P

What a step back in compatibility and usability. Where has the FireWire 400 connector gone to on the MacBook? Did they forget that they were in fact the ones that invented FireWire in the first place? Now Apple turns around and decides to remove industry standard connectors from their computers. What's next - Macs coming pre-installed with Windows and Mac OS X?

I am disappointed Apple!

They all suck. All have glossy displays - fugly and poor choice for professional and heavy users.

Sony VAIOs have been coming with 1920by1200 res screens for the last 3-4 years now. I think other makers have those too.

Apple has blown it. Glossy screens are terrible.

You know what I wish, I wish that Apple let Panasonic (Matsu****a) design and MAKE their notebooks in Japanese factories,
assembled in Nippon with the best quality available and without gloss. Then I'd buy, even if $1000 premium. I'd be worth it
to have Mac OSX on a Business ToughBook - the Sony Vaio/IBM killer in all respects.

I sort of agree with you on this. I just bought a mbp without the glossy display because it's a pain seeing yourself in the reflection. That said the Apple execs said it's a laptop so you can move out of the light and to maximise the "pop" of the image.

Personally the best feature of the new macs are the glass trackpad which is actually a large button. very clever.

Yep indeed they look nice, believe me a macbook pro is a damn nice machine to have. I will get me one soon

And to all those "we hate Apple products" people .... its all starts here. One step at a time. First u start using iTunes for Windows, then you buy a iPod nano, then you get a virus on Windows and you mac buddy tells you to ditch Windows for a more stable faster OSX, then you get another iPod for you girlfriend and eventually you sitting with either an iPhone or Apple mac os some sort.

Anyone using iTunes? :D

Had like 3 ipods already and no mac.. cause look the ipod is the epitome of mp3 player's (although there is probably other brands that make mp3 players that's technically better). And even though I like the styling and fine workmanship on the mac's..I wont buy one.
Not because I actually believe it to be inferior, not even because of the hefty price tag.
But I'm a linux boy, familiar with the operating system, like the flexibility and the whole culture surounding it. So dont see the point in buying a mac for 10 grand when linux gives me the same stability for way free? But okay suppose the difference comes in with the apparently scary learning curve in linux. But anything beats the virus prone windows
