There is one or 2 guys on the 4x4 community forum that owns the 2010 Thar and says they will never sell it.

Don't think so hey. I tried to keep up to a 2010 model into town the other day. It was going 120/130km/h and did not sound like it was having any trouble.

ps. regarding accessories. I am having an aluminum hard top made at CanopyBoys.co.za in goodwood. Also adding central locking and alarm system. All and all will cost 25k more.
 
Everyone with some kind of status drives these in India. I have been waiting for it to come here, in terms of reliability these things take a hammering and you wont have to worry about it letting you down.

They had a whole bunch of these running on bio fuel when I was over there about 6 years ago.

I test drove the press vehicle and I was amazed. It has bigger wheels but the ride should still be the same.
Only had an issue with blind spot visibility. Will have to rubber neck to actually see your blind spots.

It has its downsides :
It really is not a family car. Only has 2 front seats and two benches like a normal bakkie has at the back. (could probably add a seat). There is also no safety features like airbags or ABS. (maybe in India they think a hard body and raised from the ground is safe :crylaugh:)
If the wife decides our family needs to grow in a couple of years then we would probably just get her a small(4 seats and safe) car.

Other than that, the Thar is awesome. The 2.5 Diesel Engine feels great compared to the small car engines in the same price range. You could probably get a second hand duster(1.6 petrol or 1.5 diesel) for that price but it will not be as fun to drive or as capable off road. A new Suzuki Jimny (1.3L) starts at R229k.

Interior is not as premium as in a Jeep but you can see they have taken some of the wrangler design. But then again, the Thar is R300K less than a new Wrangler.

Finaly got mine on Friday. Took it for a drive towards Houtbaai this weekend. Amazing car. Very high ride height. Lots of low down torque. Soft top will be replaced in the next 2 weeks with a hard top(allready ordered) because the wind in Cape town does not work well with the soft top.

This thing is fun to drive. Not a famally car at all but will suit a couple without children perfectly

Looks very good in the red Do you think 3 large dogs will fit in back if rear seats permanently removed?
