New Mandela Banknotes

How do you feel about the new Mandela bank notes?

Not really a fan of the colours and the "1 man is SA's saviour" theme Madiba's name seems to rep in SA. I don't mind 1 note with Madiba's face, but if they want to be ideal and commemorate a freedom fighter in SA, do that for everyone else too and "Americanize" our notes. Throw in some Sobukwe, Fischer, Slovo, Tambo, Biko... Sadly all this note just feels like an ANC ploy to brainwash everyone like they have been on making it seem like they were the only freedom fighters SA had. As a black person I'm never worried about name changes or these notes, except when everything seems to only represent ANC apartheid activists (and places should be named by their native names not politicans) and no independents, PAC etc. Once you read up on our history from other perspectives you tend to see there are more who have sacrificed than Madiba and the entire ANC combined (Sobukwe namely), but because he wasn't ANC is basically being erased from our history #endrant.

Plus it would be so much cooler saying you carrying some Sisulu's or some Slovo's (get it, Benjamins??).

Mandela is a symbol of our democracy and that is something everyone can agree on.

Looks like fake monopoly money.

And also read the thread. Pretty soon we could have winnie on our money too.
 
Do you guys sit around looking at your money? Do you hang it all around your house? I don't know, perhaps I'm blasé about this because the only time I ever look at money is when I'm paying someone and that's for about half a second, 10% of the time, since I mostly use plastic. So i couldn't be bothered with what's on it really. Meh. :p

I personally dont have an issue with Mandela on the note, its the future I'm worried about.. as above.

Besides that I just dont like the design. Its too dark among other things, and its thicker than the other notes. Just a crap looking note overall.
 
This guy showed his friend a new R50 on the train, now everyone wants to see it. Hope he doesn't get it back :D

Everyone has them now - nearly all ATM's and shops.

They filtered to the public very quickly.

I must have withdrawn money from the one and only one in Centurion that doesn't have new money ... funnily enough it spewed out brand spanking new "old" notes

Luckily I could contain my dissapointment :p
 
Now that I have handled new notes I see Dream King's concern. The hold strip is no longer on the back. To me, the coat of arms no longer has raised printing and the colour shifting ink doesn't change as well as the old ones.

I'm loving the new money! I have the R50 and R100 notes and they're so beautiful! :love: I don't want to spend it or bend it in any way cos it's so purrrty :love:
 
Most of our staff called it "foreign money" when they saw it today.

So much for Mandela the icon! :D
 
Yea, I saw someone at std bank eastgate today complaining complaining about the "foreign money" they got out of the ATM :D
