It would take a miracle for the DA to get to even terms by 2020, its more likely that they may reach 30%. They have been growing steadily but not quickly enough and inroads into more and more of the public will get harder. They have also failed to expand at a sufficient growth in many provinces like KZN. Political forecasts are just random guesses at best, they predicted that COPE would increase market share, which it didnt and they never thought that the NFP(I think, the splinter group off IFP) would win any wards.

I pray for the day when we have an equallly fought election but don't think it will be anytime soon.

I have not seen the COPE forecasts you have seen, I have just seen the internal DA forecasts. So far the forecasts have been fairly accurate (as I pointed out, the DA got more municipalities than it forecast in the last elections).

Meh, I didn't read the part about someone across all the notes but its pretty unusual for any country to have a similiar picture on all their notes. A few of those countries are democratic though, so to the monarchy point I don't understand, I mean one of the people for the currency of Scotland is a golfer.

He is in his final years living, so I think they want to do stuff visually for him, instead of retrospectively saying we wish he could've seen it, at least thats why I think most people have tributes for him now instead of waiting till he passes.

Monarchs, you dont have a choice on who the next King is gonna be so its not really political motivated like democracies where people vote the ultimate leader. And yes I know you vote for prime ministers in places like UK, but you will not find a current prime minister on all the notes. For the exact reason of not using it as a political tool.

You won't find a current president on any bank notes here either.

who really cares whats on bank notes, why is it even an issue?
99% of transactions are note free, the only time I see notes is when I go to a casino, otherwise don't touch cash.

No but you find someone that is very political, he murdered and went to jail for his political views, he is also a member of that political party.

We had mandela already on our coins... no one here made a thread about it or complained... but omg... put him on a note and its the END OF THE WORLD (tm)!!11111!!!

I wish you could see the growth I see. Even Winnie Mandela `s nephew has joined the DA :D There is such a strong youth movement and with Zuma and Malema destroying the ANC... things are going great. Service delivery talks, and as people in ANC municipalities see the DA doing a better job.. its going to snow ball. Heck, even my municipality (Buffalo City in the EC), is forecast to become a DA municipality in 2024. I know its hard for some people not see this, but its happening.

It's possible that as the DA becomes more like the ANC in it's make up that this will happen. Problem is we're turning into a 2 party system so your choices are limited. Many people will vote or join the DA because they are fed up with the ANC and have no other options - it's either ANC, DA or no vote. As more ANC people join the DA, the DA will become more and more like the ANC until you end up with a situation like in the USA where the differences between the parties are much smaller than the things they have in common.

Well, if it helps, you can give all your bank notes to me, I like having madiba's picture in my wallet (although I'd prefer to have aunty elizabeth, tbh)

Thats what people said when the old racists ran away from the NP (when it joined the ANC). They said the DA would lose itself to conservatism. It has not. As long as we have a respectable leadership like the DA currently has... there is not going to be a problem.

I dig the choice of words, "It's possible that as the DA becomes more like the ANC in it's make up that this will happen.". The DA have absolutely no intention of becoming like the ANC.

Commenting on the actual notes themselves, rather than the politics: They look a little dull to me and, maybe even a bit old fashioned. Also, again the damn R20 looks identical to the R200. Could they not have taken the opportunity to change the R200 note colour, or plasticise our notes (like Australian money) to make it impossible to forge or destroy with water?

Anyway, it will be novel to see new money floating around. Although I'm pretty sure we need a R500 sooner rather than later. Maybe with JuJu's head on it to represent ultimate wealth.

The notes seem to different sizes (R10 smallest, R200 biggest) are the current notes like that?

I think they will be shinier and a little brighter, it looks like the ink is wet in the pic.

I know they have no intention of becoming like the ANC but I think people will move to the DA not because they've had a change in ideology or political thinking but because the ANC isn't delivering fast enough or they're fed up with it for some other reason or they didn't get the promotion they wanted, or they think they have a better chance at power grabbing, whatever - but they take their political ideology with them. In this way the DA will come to resemble the ANC more and more. If half the ANC members stood up today and joined the DA without changing their political ideology, aims and thinking, then the DA would suddenly be half ANC.
These new members get to vote in leaders etc...

Think you missed my point, you said that the countries I mentioned were monarchies but not all of them there thus making your point invalid. Anyway lets kill that issue.

As for being politically motivated, I don't know, even if they had done it after Mandela had died some people would still complain about his political affiliations.

The forecasts are for the DA has been wrong in the sense that they expected a smaller minority voter increase and a larger black voting increase, which wasn't the case. A lot of the analysts I have heard have talked about the DA having reach a threshold point with minorities and now comes the real test to win over the majority. I would hope they could gain more votes quickly but from my side it seems unlikely

I doubt the DA would accept that many ANC people, they have already being burnt by accepting ANC volk. Also, I doubt half the ANC are corruption free... so wouldnt stand a chance in the DA. As you saw in Midvaal.... what happens when you get someone into the DA with a foot in the DA and a foot in the ANC.

The ANC ideologically is not that far removed from the current DA leadership. Both subscribe to the big nanny state 'progressive' policies. It's not a great leap to switch party

Ghoti, I sincerely hope that as a prospective (or current?) DA councillor you have more empathy and understanding with constituents than you do with people who share different views to you. Your condescending and mocking response to people in general and to those who dont approve of the new Mandela notes specifically is shocking. You dont offer reasons why you differ, you lambaste those who differ.

Right now as a DA voter I would not vote for you as my councillor.
