Ghoti, I sincerely hope that as a prospective (or current?) DA councillor you have more empathy and understanding with constituents than you do with people who share different views to you. Your condescending and mocking response to people in general and to those who dont approve of the new Mandela notes specifically is shocking. You dont offer reasons why you differ, you lambaste those who differ.

Right now as a DA voter I would not vote for you as my councillor.

Dude, trolls are trolls. I find the idea that people are upset with it silly (now I am not allowed an opinion? - double standards much). I really dont care of your opinion of me really I dont. I actually gave reasons in my FIRST post in this thread as to why approve of it, but you are so focused on attacking my character... you cant see it. Carry on man... carry on. Im not here to please trolls. Im here to give a personal opinion, and if you dont like it... dont read it. I think you need to stop attacking my character and perhaps keep your eye on the ball instead of playing the man. I dont care about your personal opinion of me. Get it?

Nah, dude... I agree with the majority of the opinions you state on this here forum, but you're wrong on this one. There are valid reasons for questioning both this decision and the means in which it was announced. Emotions and relations are at play here, and to shoot down the opinions given without due consideration just isn't cool...

That was not directed at people who have a different opinion to me, everyone is welcome to it. What you quoted was directed at the person attacking my character. How can I be wrong about defending my character against such a direct personal attack? If I am "wrong" about something (which I am told a lot...)... then please quote what I am "wrong" about, and not a response to a personal attack.

Cause right now you are either saying I am wrong about defending against the personal attack (as thats what you quoted), or I am wrong because my personal opinion is I approve of the Mandela head on the notes (though how someone can be wrong on a personal opinion of something that they like... is a little strange).

Perhaps you should view my post as more of a general observation, then. I've been reading your responses in the various threads since the change was announced... there is a level of, shall we say, unwarranted condescension apparent in many of them. Like ol' Lancie turned down to 3/10. :p

I'm not looking to get into a 'brawl' here... Just take it from whence it comes. :)

Please quote so I can see what you are talking to. I made some jokes earlier with nico about the "oppression" he was going to have to go through.. but thats because we have a personal libertarian vs liberal thing... and he see`s most rules as a type of oppression. Then the only other time I can think of is with the coin comment. Where I tried to highlight how silly people were getting upset about Mandela on the notes when he has already been on the coins. However, quote so I know what you are talking about.

EDIT: I see I was condescending to elementals... tbh. His statements were a little absurd from my perspective which is why I reacted with absurdity. However, I could not find one post where it was "unwarranted".

Gotta find it odd how HapticSimian popped his head into the thread just to criticise your posts, you has a stalker!

Nah, I'm not even gonna go down the quoting back-and-forth road. It wasn't anything terribly severe, or I'd have piped up sooner. I also came in at the arse-end of yours and Freshy's conversation.

I'm prolly also a mite over-sensitive, as I do not approve of the move and I'm quite certain my concerns are at the very least valid and defensible...

But it's water under the bridge, so to speak. In a year none of us will care, and in 6 it'll change again.

Nothing against Mr. Mandela but the notes themselves are ugly...not sure if it's the colors or what?

I wouldnt know, you havent expressed them in this thread (afaik). So far as I can see your only contributions to this thread have been what you think of me... perhaps I missed the post?

There have been a number of threads on the issue. This one simply mirrored the tone of the other 2 or 3; I don't have enough investment in the matter to chime in at every opportunity... Regardless, I just find it annoying that very little credence is given to the fact that it is essentially an act of politicising the currency, whether it was intended as such or not.

You expect a political to do anything other than politicking?
Everything a politician does is first and foremost in aid of benefiting his own self. The fact that they could use Mandela is secondary, Zuma wanted to be the one to do it (he knows some other ANC president was bound to do it), and he knows he'll score more points by using Mandela.

Well, I'm not saying the move took me by surprise, am I? :)

I dont know, this is the only one I think I have posted in and have being reading (on this forum).

I share the perspective of most South Africans, in that Mandela was great man who brought reconciliation and forgiveness to a country and society that really needed it, and despite his checkered past... thats what he will be remembered for. I have no problem with him going onto the notes (just like I hate no problem with him going onto some of the coins)... as he will be a role model for many generations to come. I think that the positive far out ways a couple of negative people (generally) on the right wing... who feel the need to get upset about this.

The man is the father of our nation and is incredibly respected. Does not matter what party you belong to, almost all South Africans are proud of him and believe he deserves this small token.

They boosted the contrast in that pic. IRL the notes seem to use the same colours as current notes (as in not contrasty/opaque like the pic).

It is indeed. There was a thread started by garyvdh which contained most of the related banter over the weekend.

I won't contest any of that. However, I personally worry that some slightly less-comatose-than-the-norm comrade merely spotted an opportunity for the current government to get some more mileage out of the old man's coat tails. The ANC's not really ever given much reason to trust the sincerity of their actions, and I cannot help but wonder over the true motivation.

That, and I think emblazoning the same image of Mandela over all five denominations reeks of laziness on the one hand, and near-deification on the other.

I was away the weekend at our holiday home... which is in a GPRS only area :(

It might be true, but in the long term, having someone who is well known for his forgiveness and reconciliation... might actually have a positive impact in the long run. Think of the little dude in a rural area... looking at the note... wondering how he could be great like Mandela to get onto a note.

Its money, it would be nice to have good looking money.

They should use a hologram, then Mandela will look like he's dancing when you move the note.

You only notice this now ? It's his modus operandi to get people to stop replying to what he has to say, so he can fool himself into thinking he is actually right.

Extreme levels of intolerance in at least like 70% of what he posts.

I'd hate to think of him as any type of an ambassador for any organisation I am associated with.

Calm down there, skippy. I'm not about to embark on some lynching expedition here. I've also been known to post the odd snide response, like this one. 100% deservedly so.
