New Nokia N97 released this month

Just started a thread this morning about it here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=2841072#post2841072

Highlights:
What do you think this bad guy will cost? Or what do you rate the "pay in" would be on a "Talk 500" or equivalent?

The E75 is available now for R1800 pay in on the 2 year spiel...
Do you guys think its worth waiting for this model to come out?
and...
Do you think the xtra money they'd want for it would be worth the xtra dingle berries?

What say the public?

The N96 is R9000 so I expect the N97 to be a bit more...

It's about time !

Hope it's not too pricey ...

Wonder whether that guy on Bidorbuy is still flogging the "N97"s to the public? Asked him where he imports them from, and didn't get an answer yet.

EDIT: Seems like people were onto him. All the ads have disappeared.

In SA we always get BS on gadgets and ripped off ..... ur probably looking at R1000 pay in once off on most contracts when n97 is first released ... if u can wait another 2 or 3 months then it'l eventually drop the once off payments .....

btw release is scheduled for June 2009 in 75 countries, and its jus been released in North America yesterday at 11 am (US time). we'l probably get ours at the same time as Europe, cos most of our gadgets are released at the same time as theirs ...

My pay in on the N95 8GB was over R2k, chances the N97 is only R1k.

per Balistic's post, autopage's pay is R3K for a normal R200 p/m contract ... that is riduclous ....

Why would you say that?

Yes, my N95 pay in (almost 2 years ago) on a Talk240 was R2000. I predict we are looking at closer to a R3000 -R4000 pay-in on a similar package for the N97. I contacted Vodacom last week and the reply I got was that they are planning to launch the N97 only in August - yet is seems they are planning to release the new Iphone 3GS in July?

I am a real Nokai fan, but you have to admit the new iPhone voice command features are quite amazing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvQyYEaf2CM

I will be getting an N97 from Nokia when it launches here, am super excited! :D

When my current contract comes up for renewal (several months from now), I am considering getting an iPhone.

This doesn't make any sense buddy. The N97 is much more powerful than the N95 8GB, so if u paid in R2k for the N95, I think u should expect to pay a bit more for the N97 - not just a grand.

he is saying, "what are the chances the pay in is only R1k". He thinks its gonna be 3-4k"

I checked the current Vodafone UK offers on the N97. The only contract plan it is currently free on is their 1200 Anytime minutes plan @ 40 GBP per month.

The only other plan they offer it on via their website is their 900 Anytime minutes plan @ 35 GBP/month with a 150 GBP once-off pay-in.

Cash and unlocked it is going for 500 GBP in the UK.

Interesting thing I noticed about the Vodafone talk contracts - as extras they list unlimited landline calls and unlimited mobile internet. Wonder in what century we will see that in SA? :o
