New Opera browser launched

Was the VPN [pen-]tested? If I was into Opera I'd wait for some reputable security guy to vouch for it... Also the default whitelist should be editable, otherwise it would presumptuous to assume everyone likes those sites...

I think I'll keep using it for a bit

/sets as default browser

Opera told Ars Technica that none of the sites paid to be on the list. “We picked out these sites because they offer a good experience to users with ads on.”

Aaaand that's the first lie out of their mouths.

Given their new management, and the lack of transparency because it's not an open-source effort and will probably never be audited by a third-party, I'd give this one a miss.

I knew they still existed, I just didn't know they had enough users left to warrant a full article. Go figure.

This seems to be about on par with the news coverage when Nokia relaunched the 3110...

I will always have a soft spot for Opera, because they were the only alternative when Netscape died, but this:

They can whitelist it. I have Facebook blacklisted on the router.

Opera keeps asking me to download:

Opera_45.0.2552.888_Autoupdate_x64

I have downloaded and opened it, but Opera still keeps wanting to download this file.

Any suggestions?

Install Chrome. I'm not being funny. I have a soft spot for Opera but something doesn't feel right.

I used it for a week or two and in that time I had somebody from the Philippines also using Opera trying to accessing my Facebook account. Luckily they flagged it as suspicious.

Coincidence? Maybe, but I'm not risking it.

I was about to rubbish your idea and give you grief for the crap advice....and then I just realised....a few days after I installed Opera I received a warning that my Microsoft account was hacked from Egypt and Vietnam. Coincidence?

Question.

Opera is a man-in-the-middle service that compresses web pages for you, then serve said optimized web pages for you. Correct?

Now, who is in control of that server that does the optimization?

This is one of the major reasons that I dropped it.

The Gupta's?
No idea.
