New or pre-owned gaming PC?

For R3000 he can get a 4th Gen i5 with 8GB DDR3.

My recommendation is for him to put in some over time or something and make that budget 12 or 13K then he can get it all.

He will be sure to review your consideration, thank you :P

Currently his maths turns up the following (will all this stuff work with everything else?):

Total cost of below: R11 634

GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 3G - R4 000 https://www.rebeltech.co.za/12902-m...tx-1060-gaming-x-3g-3gb-192bit-gddr5-cor.html

CPU - i7-6700 - R2 700 http://carbonite.co.za/showthread.php?t=161320

PSU - Corsair VS, 550 - R784 https://www.rebeltech.co.za/8202-co...ta-4x-4pin-molex-2x-8pin-2-6-pci-e-power.html

DVD writer - LG/Hitachi GH24NSDO DVD-Writer - R210 https://www.rebeltech.co.za/4841-lg...x-dvd-rw-sata-black-securdisc-password-p.html

There is no stock of 1060s, note that is a 3GB GPU. Galax or Zotac 6GB is a better buy if there is stock at the same price.

Yeah I just put it as a placeholder for the time being. So 6GB 1060, got it. Now I just gotta find somebody who has stock. Is the mining thing still making it that bad? I thought that'd have died down a bit by now.

I would rather go for the 600w EVGA PSU.

Also this is subjective but that case is ugly as hell, do you not want something nice with window to perhaps show off your fancy new system?

Yeah I'll still think about which case to get. I just dropped that one in there because that was the first one to have two USB 3.0 ports, the cheaper ones only have one USB 3.0 port. Noted regarding the PSU, thanks.

I'm more worried about the stock shortage of graphics cards :/ It seems like that's gonna be the major challenge to get.

Talking motherboards, I came across this one that looks pretty cool: https://www.rebeltech.co.za/15186-a...decker-heatsink-aura-sync-rgb-led-intel-.html

Admittedly it's twice as much as the one recommended to me here: https://www.rebeltech.co.za/14070-m...-1x-m2-key-m-type-2242-2260-2280-on-cpu-.html

The one real difference between the two is that the Asus board has built-in WiFi, which I guess won't matter as much to me for a desktop PC.

Is there anything else I should be aware of, or is it just about paying more for the funkier looks and bigger heat sinks?

This sounds good: "ROG SupremeFX audio: Renowned audio performance with dual headphone amplifiers, leveled-up Sonic Studio III, and Sonic Radar III". Does it make any difference in reality?

Reading through the thread and seeing the remarks, is the exact reason why most of us go for 2nd hand parts. On some things I do not care for warranty, the others I do. But when you are on a budget, the 2nd hand market, is the best place to get what you need.

Just my 2c.

Yup, and it looks like I'll have to do that with a GPU unless I want to pay R6 000 (new price for GTX1060) instead of R3 000/R4 000 for a preowned one. Just dunno if I'll even find a preowned one that hasn't been used in a mining rig, that's what worries me.

And PonderH just doesn't reply, does he? He hasn't replied to my PMs on Carb (I see a lot of people complaining about that in his threads), nor to my whatsapps. *sighs* If anybody has a back door to the dude, please do me a favour and ask him to put aside one of those i7-6700's of his, I do want one but if I can't contact him I'm worried they'll all go :/

Sadly I had the same problem, out of stock and he never got back to me. Got a 7600k from wootware instead.

No. Less RAM slower GPU and CPU. But it was cheaper. Ignore it, on second thoughts just get what you were planning on getting. There are second hand GPUs which could be worth looking at, not everyone is a miner. I'll go look.

Thanks bro. Funnily enough a store just around the corner from me has the GTX1060 in stock, but at R5 999. I just don't know if I can pull the trigger on a GPU that costs that much. I know people will laugh at me (I saw the Titan X going for R50 000!), but hell ... it's my first gaming PC and I just need to ease myself into this addiction, not go straight to mainlining heroin.

You don't want to be like that couple! Check the link I posted. They're in PTA.

I feel like this is going to be a thread like that dude who took about 3 months to buy his PC...who was that guy again?

Hallmarks...I see them
