New overclocking record

Gosh another "myadsl styled" advertisement......dont tell me this is anything else. Rouxenator agree that AMD plays an vital part in the IT market, but still buy Intel, why cause intel delivers. But AMD is needed to keep the market competitive just hope the boys at AMD will up their game and push innovation.

Mole i guess you don't quite understand this site is here to make money so surely advertising makes money?

1+1=2 this may be easier for you 2 grasp :p

really man...what a bunch of geeks...new overclocking record...who gives a ****???
ok thanks for your useless comment, some people are interested in this stuff

but anyway...
AMD FTW
ill never go over to INTEL ARRRG

I have an P4 and AMD (Athlon 64 x2 5600+), so there's no way for me to compare the two - I'm still neutral.

The thing that I'm not sure about is overclocking. Doesn't it shorten the lifespan of many of your components? Adequate cooling will help a bit, but still.... My overclocking is set to auto, but "luckily?", the CPU never seems to run at more than 2.9GHz (which is what the manufacturer intended), and my memory stays at a nice and "slow" 667Mhz.

Just wondering.

in the good old days i overclocked my stock standard 4.77MHz XT to a screaming 7MHz! :D

yeah i know it's old news but hell is it worth it stressing the components to get that little bit more for what?

Yea stated the obvious

aah yes must admit the 1+1=2 is what made it grasp it... sure but couldn't they just stick to like the more traditional banner ad advertising?

What is it with Fanboys? I think that having loyalty to a brand is a good thing, but if another brand is cheaper, and knocking the stuffing out of your brand, maybe you should seriously consider moving. There is no doubt about it, the Core 2 range from Intel is responsible for AMD's rather ungracious decline. Yes, Intel had some dodgy business practices, and they may still get into trouble over that.

AMD has their moments of glory, which were well deserved. However, hubris got to them and instead of concentrating on continuing, they wasted time gloating and pushing Intel. Hence why they were caught with their pants down when Core 2 came out.

Ug, maybe I'm sounding like a fanboy here instead of trying to be logical. Bit hard to be impartial I guess lol

Intel sux donkey b4ll5. They are big and use p155y pants bully tactics. Plus they copy a lot of AMD. Like EMT64, or iAMD as it is also know. And moving away from rambus ram (which was a scam on its own). These days they are also looking at copying the integrated memory controller approach that AMD has been using for a while now. Intel had to recall the 1ghz P3 because they did a rush job on it and the P4s netburst architecture was a flop.

Sure, AMD copied x86 from Intel, but they did it under license and their CPUs kicked ass. Intel 386s topped out at 33Mhz while AMD made them go up to 40Mhz without heatsink or fan! It even kicked 486 ass. So AMD did copy, but they made intel micro device more advanced, hence the name Advanced Micro Devices.

If you look at all the innovation they put into x86 I think we all owe them a big thanks else Intel would have tried to sink us all with their itanics.

The last good Intel was the PII - and I loved mine. But since then it has been AMD all the way and I am currently using a X2 6000 (dual core 3ghz) on a Biostar 690 board. My next upgrade will be to a 790GX board, later on to a quad phenom.

Intel is for the suits and old folks - oh - and Micheal Dell, and he'll burn in hell.
AMD and Biostar FTW ! (yeah, I'm a fanboi since 2001 and proud of it)

1. You know, why don't you back up your statements with links to support it with?
2. A review has been done on a comparison between the Q6600 and the Phenom 9850... the 9850 then being AMD's fastest processor the and Q6600 being the slowest Intel Quad Core... and the Q6600 still beat the AMD... you can find that on Tom's Hardware, amongst other sites.

Overclocking used to be completely and utterly controversial at one stage. Today's Intel CPU's are literally underclocked as it stands and you can overclock Core2Duo's and Quad Cores to a suitable level without any damage whatsoever, on stock cooling and componentry. Not sure about the AMDs though.

"Tom's Hardware" lol :P

Anyway, I am also an AMD fan, but come one that is not a record, or is it for something we didn't read, like the fastest tri core or something...

My X2 5000+ Black Edition is also clock well over 3ghz from what ever it is stock...

And my E2180 is also clocked over 3ghz from stock 2ghz, all air cooled....

I think we are missing something here...

Ok, I understand. I think the '+' in my 5600+ indicates that it can be overclocked. Let me ask my friend Google.... :)

As far as I know, all CPUs are underclocked by 5 - 10%, regardless of the manufacturer. I think it's standard practice to lower the rate of failure.

1. Links ? I don't need no stinkin' links.
2. Sure Intel has the upper hand right now, but it changes all the time. Remember when the AMD Duron kicked the P4s ass ?

****ing hell guys,
if i say i like AMD then dont try convince me intel is better
its just like religion if you are christian i wont go after you and say that its rubsh and convert to atheism.

dont tellm whats better and whats not it does not matter whos the better one if some guy is a AMD fan then let him be a AMD fan
its all personal preference

AMD still IMO the best, they have never tried to dominate the market with sh ! tty adds and they are always very good with the pricing. and thats why i will always be a AMD fan
