New pay-TV decoder pricing and package details revealed

I wonder if this is the same On Digital bunch who launched in the UK using the digital terrestrial signal rather than satellite about eight or nine years ago. Anyone know?

It failed there, for two reasons, there were insufficient digital terrestrial signals broadcast to compete with the the satellite / cable companies and their decoder software was abysmal (even worse than Mono-choice's if you can believe that).

I wanted to look at their web-site (http://www.ondigitalmedia.co.za/), but that is "down for maintenance". Not really a very good start. Not holding my breath...

Only reason I still have my DSTV :)

Although getting so tired of repeats. If it were not for the 20H00 series each night on Action I would have dumped DSTV already. Paying R500+ PM for just the series and a few movies it hardly becomming worth it though.
 
if the channels are kinda good, i'll give them a shot!

+1 MyBroadband has such a low standard of journalism..

I'll be more than willing to drop my Multichoice if ODM offers a good package.
All I ever wanted from MC was to be able to pick the channels that I actually watch. If ODM does this, with GOOD channels, and let me watch all the sport I can currently watch @ R350/month, they might just have themselves a new cuzzie.
 
Telkom media got sold to Shenzhen Media South Africa? WTF? You would think that that would generate a bit more attention.
 
The negativity of some people astounds me.

Come on people - these people so very recently bought Telkom Media and already we have pricing structures as well as some details. I, for one, am very impressed they've gotten the ball rolling so fast.

I agree 100% with you. If will so ditch DSTV if the channel choices are good. I just want my Formula 1 and then SABC 1, 2, 3, etv, BBC lifestyle, E! and Style network (the wife loves it). Discovery and National Geographic will also be nice just to name a few. MTV and VH1 and a couple of music only channels and then DSTV can kiss my ass!
 
I was all ready to jump up and shout sport as well - then it dawned on me. I either watch the Ruggers at Loftus or the pub cos my wife doesn't like it and she chases me out so she can watch movies and I go to the pub for Rugby so - if these guys have even a slightly worthwhile offering, good bye DSTV...

ODM did not buy Telkom Media. They were one of the groups that won the license along with Telkom Media.

Telkom Media is supposed to have sold their business to Shenzhen Media.

On what authority are you saying that? I regularly follow ODM's progress and since beginning 2009 it has always been in the second quarter.

Currently there is no more info on the set top box. The only information that can officially be reported on is what has been included. Satelite information has not yet been finalised although I'm sure you will be able to use a conventional dish.

This is not an incomplete story, it is an update. Would you prefer to be in the dark about ODM until they launch?

Would you care to explain what is wrong with the journalism here? We have brought you up to date news on a Multichoice competitor that no one else has broken yet - last time I checked that was pretty good journalism practice.

I understand why you may feel this information is vague. This is the only rock solid info there is at the moment, the rest is under embargo or has not yet been finalised. We will obviously update as soon as we know more but for now this is an encouraging update on a Multichoice competitor - something that plenty of MBB users have been rooting for for a long while.

Not really, they're probably updating it with the information we are reading in this article.

Correct, I have it on good authority that ODM will be around in a big way from June.


I included all the relevant information that was provided to me in this article.

We will have a more conclusive ODM update as soon as ODM finalise details..
 
I love documentaries, so if ODM has discovery etc I'd be really interested.
