New pay-TV decoder pricing and package details revealed

For true competition there should be seperation of channel providers and platform providers. For example Supersport should be forced to sell their product to platform providers something like in US where you can get ESPN on cable, satellite etc

Its an old article people, repeated to death and now revamped again.

WTF? Where's the "new details" the headline promised me?

Now tell this is not a carbon copy?

Bad journalism.

I was all ready to jump up and shout sport as well - then it dawned on me. I either watch the Ruggers at Loftus or the pub cos my wife doesn't like it and she chases me out so she can watch movies and I go to the pub for Rugby so...

Very good point there, never dawned on me. I'm the same, meet the mates in the pub for the games, much better than watching home alone anyway.

You and the missus have a good arrrangement there ;) There are guys out there that wish for that :D

bliksem jy is 'n negatiewe moer. All your posts are always negative. Didn't your mother love you enough or what???
This is going to be good damnit...just wait and see. :)

chill ouens, chill.....:o

OK Fight!

+1 MyBroadband has such a low standard of journalism..

yep they told us this exact info a few months ago... now they added' R400' to the decoder price but its still 'around 400' so could be anything from 150 to 1000... really waste of my highly expensive gprs bandwidth to have bothered reading it :/

Also from their web......

Can subscribers expect the same channels as on DSTV?
No, but ODM will be offering subscribers similar genres of programmes.

What does that mean? So NO Discovery, No National Geographic, No MNET, No Movie Magic 1 & 2.............?

Or am I reading it wrong again as usual........?

See people do not realize i think just how decent a service DSTV is, they offer everything from movies to fashion to sport. If your someone who sits and watches tv 8 hours a day then expect repeats, if your annoyed because you have spend 500 bucks a month on dstv then cancel it and watch sabc, you can download your stuff as well so there may be no need for dstv but to me dstv looks like really good and when i do watch tv i always find something i have not seen.

Unless odm bring something amazing to the table i fear they will fail epically. I mean what else are they going to do that dstv does not do?

You think they will be able to have channels running 24/7 with no repeats so that people who watch 8 hours a day won't complain?

most of the 'international ' channels on dstv seems to be from brittain... very few comes from america or any other country for that matter, there are 1000's of channels out there, to think that dstv has managed to get the best (like 5) channels in the world, is really naive boet... other than on the sport side, they can easily be beaten... and the sport will only be a matter of time as i am sure they have contracts at moment with most big events...

Fair point, but the problem with those channels like AXE, HBO and Showtime are incredibly expensive. DSTV prices are fairly inline with the international norm and by trying to bring in any of those channels the costs will be prohibitive for the average South African consumer.

I'm currently with Sky in the UK... I would kill to have DSTV again
