New PC build, advice & recommendations welcome!

Both packages arrived at debbin depo this sparrow fart so I will hopefully have them before lunch time.
 
Ok so everything is working just fine. Silencio chassis is a bit cramped wrt cable management but pretty cool (the air coming out the back & psu). System temps are in the 40's while cpu temps are in the 50's. This is in current debbin smothering heat. The gpu fan barely ever comes on and averages about 42C. Loudest thing is probably the stock cpu fan.

Have installed win10 on a 235GB partion & linux on the remaining 14GB. If you guys want any benchmarks just shout.

EDIT: CPU temps right now are 44C
 
If you're not overclocking try to undervolt the cpu. If the gods favour you then your cpu might randomly have massive undervolt headroom. Mine did - scored a free couple degrees cpu temp and a quieter system with zero performance loss. All of them seem to have some headroom... Some just have more.

I doubt I have ever exceeded 10GB on /. Linux really does not take up much space & if you need a big /home you can create symlinks to other drives. I use to split a hdd down the middle for linux & windows years ago but it's wasted on linux. That 14GB / partition has more than 10GB free after I've installed everything I needed.

Core2Quad 2Ghz
4GB DDR2 Ram 800mhz
320gb hdd
600w psu (i think, not too old, replaced about a year ago)
GTX460

Yes. The PSU & GPU I got from Wootware, the rest from Aperture. Prices change the whole time so it helps to compare.

I got a CM Silencio 352 case but in retrospect I should have gone for the Corsair Carbide 200R, more space, better cable management. The CM get's a bit hot, an additional intake & exhaust fan would probably help/

Make & model of PSU?

Whatever money you can save you can put towards a GPU. Dunno what your budget is?

What do you have existing that you intend to reuse, case, monitor etc?

R10k leaves you in a weird spot, you can get the components I got and end up way under R10k or if you opt for a gtx970 it will come in between R10-11k.

Case is a really old schitty one. Got it with the pc. Bought at matrix way back when

Do I get a 970 or an ssd? I would think a 970,as I can get the ssd later, and I just use the hard drive from my current machine for a while.

Suggest me a 970. How's this?
