hi

trying to transfer gmails to new pc but it keeps downloading all 6k mails.

I would prefer if it only downloaded the latest (say last 3 months)

Only way I found to stop outlook from downloading every mail is by deleting the oldest mails and leaving them in gmail's trash.

Tried copying them to new folder outside inbox but no luck.

Anyone have an idea how best to tackle this pesky task?

Gmail imap (6k mails -.-)
old client (thunderbird 17 win xp)
new client (outlook '07 win 7)

thanks for any help

As far as I know, what you trying to do is not possible.

I just use the web interface and don't ever need to worry about email clients. It's the same data from where ever you login. Nothing to sync or anything.

To me their web interface is much better than Outlook will ever be.

What you could do is disable IMAP and only use POP3 from current date, not older mails.

Then archive all older mail within the web interface.. or delete.. leaving only the ones you want to keep.

After you cleared up, enable IMAP and change your Outlook accordingly..

in gmail go to settings > forward and pop and under Status: POP is enabled, select Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
