I also read that the AMD multi-cores are struggling to match the i5s even, nevermind the i7s.

Overseas prices are overrated.... you need to consider duties/landing costs.

The 2600k on the stock cooler can OC to 4.2GHz without "issues". It is however recommended to get a proper cooler. Cooler temperatures lead to a longer lifespan and better performance. You can look at the Antec or Corsair air coolers, they work pretty well too.
I can overclock my 2500k to 4.6GHz with the Corsair H60 and still have temps of around 40C.

Oh, and do note that for gaming, there is as of yet, little to no performance increase from the 2500 to the 2600. Even my 2500 doesn't max out all its cores in games yet (BF3, etc). My cores [2 and 3] are consistently 5-6C cooler than the rest because there's nothing to push them.

I will consider those. But when the cores are maxed out the OC'ed CPU's temperature would skyrocket and then the stock cooling wouldn't be able to handle it, am I right?

That 8.5GHz was reached by a crew who had liquid Helium at their disposal. I suspect that's slightly out of your budget.

It can handle it, depending on the ambient temperature. However I dislike it when my cores go above 55-60C.... so I just up the speed on my H60's pump.

But they won't have to now, because AMD have dropped the prices as low as the high end i3 processors :eek:
 
So now I'm thinking of dropping the water-cooling system in favour of stock cooling, and getting an ASUS P8Z68-V LE mobo, any idea on what's the cheapest price of one of these? Also if I had to import one of these any ideas on the price of import duties and customs?

Have you calculated the tax you will need to pay on a R6000 import from the US?

You will seriously need to revise the build you have going in the OP, you can go all out on CPU and smack it on the cheapest possible everything. If you want to go as far as over clocking with water cooling get yourself a z68 motherboard, nothing less. Value RAM in an i7 RIG....?

Either drop your expectations to i5 to almost make you budget, or double your budget to get a decent i7 RIG.

Everything won't be bought from the USA, only the motherboard and possibly the case, rest will be bought from Wootware and/or Evetech

Why import the case from abroad when Evetech has NZXT cases?
Take a look at Rebeltech... their prices are more than decent and their service is impeccable.

Evetech doesn't have the Guardian 921 RB. I'll take a look right now

Then there is no way you will get away with R6000 for a complete i7 pc, the processor alone makes up half of you budget.

Everything's already been budgeted for plus I have some of the components already accounted for, these are just upgrades, I could always keep the older ones.

I checked the new specials on today, actual price is slightly less than what was posted above, VAT included is around a couple hundred more for both products.
