New Phone Drought

I hate this. I have picked the worst time to delay my upgrade til - theres no way I can get an S2/Nexus once the S3 has been announced :/

But thats the problem, the need for a "new" phone is purely created by emotions. My Desire HD can do everything the S2 does, granted not as smooth but all functions are covered hell even my original desire can do most but the latest games. My DHD can easily last another year or even 2 yet the thread became a wasteland the moment the S2 arrived in SA and I suspect the same will happen to the S2 thread once the Next big thing lands.

Unlike iOS where they introduce new features, we just get better specs so there is no real need for a new phone.

Also the fact that new phone's are built into the contact price, so if you're on a contract it makes sense to upgrade, Coz you're already paying for it.

I thought there is a huge demand???
Was refering locally, has for the international market it is already over saturated with Android devices plus the recent patent trolling by Apple might have something to do with why manufacturers are not releasing new phones just yet

Oh trust me international see more than enough of new devices, we just not seeing them in SA. In fact so many people complain about the minor updates that they calling the OEM's to Please stop. Also doesn't help that most of them are LTE :(

Example see SGS 2 HD: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_ii_hd_lte-4198.php

Also, the Mobile World Congress (in Barcelona Spain) is in three weeks time, which is usually when a lot of new devices are announced.

Dam..it. I just got a call - I'm due for an upgrade already. And its now right on the cusp. I can't get a phone now, while the One X, Ascend D Quad and the S3 are imminent (<-- a subjective word)

Well I am in the same boat, expired in Feb, but waiting for a proper phone.

I looked at the Note but I have more con's than pro's on it.
The Nexus lack of a MicroSD is just to much and I prefer the razer Maxx because I don't like the bump on the camera of the original.

So I decided instead of settling I would wait for something I want, besides my HTC Desire HD is doing fine and I have no real need to get a new phone. Might even wait for a Lumia 900(Want to play with it can still use my HTC as primary if need be) or SGS3 depends what it will look like.

Ya. Waiting for the Razr Maxx or the HTC One X or the Huawei Ascend - Hate, HATE, Samsung phones, so even though all indications are off kick ass Galaxy hardware, i think i'll pass.

My desire is still doing fine.

A small issue is after the contract period (upgrade period + 2/3 months) expires, you're paying a hardware subsidy (in the call pricing) with no hardware.

Also, why have the majority of manufacturers ignored googles design guidelines with permanent keys? That really annoys me. I was hoping that they would follow the 4.0 philosophy.

Had a similar call other day. Guy wanted to know if I was a "blackberry man" or a "nokia man". Told him I'll wait for the HTC One X.

I'm sure it will get an update at some point. Nevertheless, Sony's launch of a Gingerbread phone four months after the release of ICS does not exactly inspire confidence.

"to be upgrade" is FAIL. Sick of this waiting sh*t... Year long delays in rollouts must surely delay development and innovation.

I think you fail to see that the problem is not the falure of releases, we can just look at the new RAZR, Nexus and notes to see there are much better phones out all the time.

The problem is the fear of missing something awesome around the corner. In my case I missed the dam SGS2 with like a month or two, and now I am so afraid to commit to a current new release and repeat what happened to me last year.

hehe....I must agree here, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and a HTC Wildfire S & find myself spending most time with the Wildfire. :)

It can do (almost) everything the S2 can do, albeit slower, but it's just the coolest phone I've ever had.
