New Phone Drought

That's just coz HTC > Samsung

Samsung has a few aces up their sleeve, like the Super Amoled + display, much faster graphics processor & CPU chipset, lighter design & superior battery life.....but the screen is the biggest reason I will stay with Samsung.

HTC Sense is awesome and must have the best email client around. However, with the revamped Gmail app on ICS, it really doesn't matter anymore. Just run all your email accounts through Gmail and see how long your battery lasts. ;)

Call quality on my Desire HD wasn't great, but it's crystal clear on my Wildfire S. Cheap phone with better call quality than the ex-flagship phone. Yeah, I don't know what to say.

So, in real life it's actually Samsung > HTC, unless HTC can find a Super Amoled factory somewhere. :)

I got the Desire when it came out. Still does pretty much everything and there's tons of roms etc out there for it. I know quite a few people with S2's that seem to have issues with restarts/turning off/not turning on/battery life sucking/etc. Hence I think I'll just go for the one x over the S3 but the S3 is yet to be announced so who knows.

I've been rather anti-HTC for a while. What with the various issues and problems I've had with my HTC Desire, the poor performance I experienced with Sense that ultimately drove me to void the warranty and install an AOSP ROM, and HTC's utterly indefensible decision to create a 365mb system partition on a so-called "flagship" phone with 512mb of internal storage, I have not had the greatest experience with them.

And yet... I was browsing HTC's website a few days ago, and I have to admit, there's just something about the One X. I'm not sure whether it's the huge-ass screen, the Lumia-style polycarbonate shell, the quad-core processor inside, or the fact that in the preview videos I've seen, the new Sense 4.0 interface actually looks both fast and attractive. But one way or another, I find the device very appealing. I read that it is apparently being released in Europe in about 3-4 weeks, and I to be honest it did give me pause. I'm planning to get my new phone this weekend, but maybe I should hold off for the big HTC?

But no. Quad-core CPUs and Sense 4.0 are nice, but ultimately I prefer stock ICS and the prospect of getting software updates directly from Google. It will probably take a long time to get here, but even if the One X were available in South Africa right now, I think I would still pick the GNex. Still, I do think HTC has done a good job with this phone, and I hope they sell a lot of them.

I'd rather get a Samsung or IPhone before touching an HTC again.

I got the HTC Desire when it came out except for the poor voice and signal quality I was happy with my phone. Until 3 months ago, I've wanted to throw the phone against the wall a couple of times.

The phone will restart at the most random times.
The phone touch is unresponsive a couple of times a day. This is frustrating when you have to make an urgent call and the p.o.s touch screen is frozen.

And not even to mention the little internal storage available! I can hardly download something from the market without my phone going crazy with low memory warnings.

Wtf, this is the 21st century and this phone struggles with a low internal storage.

No doubt the Samsung hardware is better. But why do they have to go and mess with Android so badly.

Anyway. I guess that's why we root.

Cant remember on which thread I read this but apparently the RAZR MAXX will not be coming to S.A. Contact one of our SP's to confirm this.

Of course not, it is only for Verizon apparently, just like the XT928 is for China Unicom.

I have the Razr...besides the faster scrolling and colorful screen...I actually prefer my Defy a lot more.

But the HTC One X....wow what I phone.

I would stay away from Samsungs... The SGS2's body feels kinda flimsy compared to my Razr or Defy

Is it me or are there very few new Androids on the market, for a while now.

People ask me which phone to get, and I'm still stuck saying the S2 or the Sensation. These phones have been out for a year now!

I can only think of the Razr which isn't groundbreaking.
The Nexus isn't really a main stream competitor, neither is the note (basically an upgraded S2).

So what is the creme de la creme of android phones currently.

The Razr isn't ground breaking... But it is sexy, water/splash resistant, dust resistant, Gorilla glass, not to mention the back kevlar, amazing overlay of Android my Motorola although a simplified rom would be interesting just to see how power hungry the overlay is, I expect not as bad as Sense and it also has things like Smart Actions and really cool 3D effects when controlling widgets and icons. Also has a nice camera and good size battery, it feels a lot more solid than the plastic feel of the S2. Did I mention that it is sexy? :p

I think that there is nothing wrong with the S2. It has a surreal lightness to it that might make it seem flimsy but I think this is more of an advantage than a disadvantage, if you make a phone too solid like the 4S, look what happens The S2 is very plastic and has flexible Gorilla glass giving it insane durability, the extreme lightness gives it far less impact energy when it hits the floor and then when it does it has a large amount of flexibility. I think it has something to do with E=MC2?

If there was a drop test of the S2 and the razr, I'm convinced the razr will also come second best, I've dropped the S2 a few times, no scratches yet, also dropped the razr, there is very slight but noticeable damage when you look for it.

I love my razr but the S2 is still really good, arguably better screen technology than razr and better camera and faster Exynos chipset.

The only downfall of the S2 is Samsungs overlay of Android so root or get a different launcher asap.
An extra battery would be awesome for this phone, unfortunately you cant get a second battery for the razr but I have seen a mod to the normal razr that gives it the MAXX's battery.

I have both so, this is my opinion

in terms of

You'd have to decide if dualcore is good enough for you, I'm sure you are aware of all the dualcore android beasts, if not quadcores are around the corner.
