Is it me or are there very few new Androids on the market, for a while now.

People ask me which phone to get, and I'm still stuck saying the S2 or the Sensation. These phones have been out for a year now!

I can only think of the Razr which isn't groundbreaking.
The Nexus isn't really a main stream competitor, neither is the note (basically an upgraded S2).

So what is the creme de la creme of android phones currently.

When did the Razr come out in SA.

I think the king will be the Razr Maxx. But who knows when we will see it.

Out of interest (and because I intend to get it), why don't you reckon the Nexus is a mainstream competitor?

The Nexus and the Moto Razr phones are both amazing devices.
Have you had a chance to hold/play with either of those? They are amazing.
S2 is still a great device. Samsung Note is gorgeous too.

The fact that there aren't a huge slew of new devices floating around the market just speaks to the longevity and amazing design quality of the phones being made these days. You buy an S2, you're going to be using that thing for a while because it stays a great phone. The Nexus and the Razr are likely to be the same - buy one now and use it for ages.

The Note looks really cool, I am just worried that it is too big.

The Sony Xperia Arc that I am using at the moment is the same size as the 4s, maybe a bit thinner. But I looked at the Note yesterday, it just seemed huge. I suppose that it depends on how you intend carrying it.

And the functionality of the Note appears to be superb.

Spec for spec it's not as good as the s2 ON PAPER. So it's main appeal is that it's a nexus phone.

Nope. I would definitely consider the nexus. But coz I'm an Android fanboy :)

Waiting for the razr maxx personally.

There is very little demand for Android

Eh?

There's very little demand locally for anything Android apart from the SGSII and Note, sure. But the SGSII especially is selling by the metric ****-ton.

Unfortunately our market seemingly isn't big enough to justify stocking much else if 1 or 2 popular phones satisfy 90% of prospective buyers though. Makes life a little tricky for those of us who don't want a Sammy, but I still managed to get the phone I wanted in the end.

Part of the reason is that manufactures have been concentrating on LTE capable phones, as the next competitive priority. Which doesn't help us here.

That was the previous wave. The next wave is battery life and quadcore processors i guess.

I take it you refer to SA where most users are on Blackberries?

Anyway, we will not know the true demand locally as 90% of the shops I went to want to sell me a BB even after I asked for an Android Phone (Droid RAZR to be more precise)

Personally I am still deciding on RAZR MAXX or Galaxy Nexus end of the month, but something tells me I should wait and see what the S3 will look like.

I hate this. I have picked the worst time to delay my upgrade til - theres no way I can get an S2/Nexus once the S3 has been announced :/
