Hey,

So I stay in Ekurhuleni and the council just installed a prepaid electricity meter yesterday on the property. And to start you off they gave me 45 units which only lasted 12 hours. And now I have no electricity as a result of this. And the problem is made worse by the fact that the CIU( customer interface unit) is not working so that I can input the token I bought and showing me "Search pan" and thereafter it switches off. What can I do?

So few things:
- Replace the 9V battery with a new one
- Move the unit around. It has to be closest to the meter at the street box
- Check your street box. Some of them have a keypad and you can enter a voucher there
- The technicians probably didn't do their job properly. In which case, make lots of noise and nag them until someone comes out

Hope this helps!

To clarify the second point. I mean move it to another plug point. Some plugs just communicate better with the meter outside. I think it has to do with distance and quality of the cabling etc.

Hi. How did you manage to get it fixed because mine still does the same thing

lol. There's 4 houses with 4 families and there's one meter, so yeah.
What’s the likelyhood of one of those families tampering with the box? Are they all in favour of the new prepaid option?
