How did you solve this? I live in a block of flats and they want to recharge it in the metre room. Which means every time I recharge I have to call a technician to help me. Because the pre paid metre cant link to the mains room because of signal interference.

Hey,

So I stay in Ekurhuleni and the council just installed a prepaid electricity meter yesterday on the property. And to start you off they gave me 45 units which only lasted 12 hours. And now I have no electricity as a result of this. And the problem is made worse by the fact that the CIU( customer interface unit) is not working so that I can input the token I bought and showing me "Search pan" and thereafter it switches off. What can I do?
Hi I have the very same problem...how did you manage to solve yours?

These prepaid meters are so dumb. Aren't there online smart meters around which can be topped up via on online dispensing system using one's phone/browser? Maybe GPRS/3G/4G/LTE plus Sigfox or Lorawan for backup?
Would also put a stop to these rogue vendors since the encryption keys could be rotated regularly.

One could get rid of the user terminals as well which probably adds a lot of unnecessary cost to our current split meter solutions.

To clarify the second point. I mean move it to another plug point. Some plugs just communicate better with the meter outside. I think it has to do with distance and quality of the cabling etc.
Does this one connect to one of the plugs to communicate via existing wires

A while back my power meter also had yo be replaced

Mine uses a wireless connection to connect to prepaid

And the funny thing was mine would lose signal when to close to a pc
switch pc off connects fine

Switch on , failed connection

Until i found a spot that worked fine ie no interference

Yes, uses the existing cabling to connect the customer unit to the one in the box outside your property. Am I making sense?

Had the same problem but worse because I did not have the power to keep the CIU on and the new battery in the unit did not work. Organised a UPS but it will show SRCH PAN until the UPS died. Asked one of the neighbours to plug it on and it reset and was ready to take the token after a few hours

Hi
So I just got home and I'm the only one on my street who doesn't have electricity. I have a prepaid meter system which was full of credit. Don't understand what went wrong.

FOR ANYONE WHO GETS THIS ERROR HERE IS THE FIX:

1) plug your CIU into a plug socket (Even though there is no power)

2) Hold ENTER until battery power kicks in.

3) Enter your token/pin to receive your power
