I wonder why they overheat so much i see they have some nice vents in them

any china shop ,look for the heavy one but if you dont have a big soldering iron dont bother .if you overheat the + side it disconnects itself.a good 18650 is around 54 grammes max .china ones some are half size in a 18650 body and filled with silica sand .
I'm talking about the ones that already have contact points attached. I wouldn't want to try to solder them myself. Seen them on takealot before. Just wondering where he bought them.

carter agencies in jhb will do it for you .ask them for 18650 with solder tabs ,but if you are going to change them open the lamp first some they epoxy the battery in and when you remove it it breaks the wires off the edison screw inside .some also use the half size 16340 batteries

I usually buy from Potensa. The website say no stock but they do have. I remove the old leads they have tabs on them and then spot weld them back on the new battery and shrinkwrap it again.

the latest ones to come out have user replaceable 18650 batteries ,2 of them .units sell for around R165 for a 25 watt globe .

Note the bulb at Build-it says daylight but its more cool white.
Its very basic science, and we learnt this at school. Anyone remember how a circuit works. Basically, by clicking the light switch on, we complete a circuit and a normal bulb turns on. There doesnt have to be electricity for this to happen other than obviously for the bulb.
With this one, it will charge when you normally use it, however it has a built in battery and depends on your usage, so much it wouldve charged with. So then power goes out. It may take a second or so, and go on and off, but then once it detects the circuit has been completed this one will turn on. Turn off the switch and the circuit has been disconnected and it turns off.
Now one thing with these bulbs, it gets dimmer and dimmer and then no light. Can last a while depending on how much its been charged. We replaced all the bulbs in our house (other than downlighters with these). I suggest you use ie the ceiling lights till they are weak then turn on the lamp to assist more and so on, so dont leave on all at once.
Its nifty in bathrooms at night especially with loadshedding. It does help, maybe not so long, but it does help. And generally theyre LED and use about the same amount of electricity. So well worth it.

Bought 20 of them. Works well. Changed all the lights in the house including all the lamps. Sure if a bit more than normal LED bulbs, but the best is the power stays on.
Supposedly you get downlighters too, but from Eurolux. Saw mixed reviews of those. But the Build-it bulbs work like a charm.
For outside you get those triangular style ones from takealot. Some seems problematic, but few neighbours have them. Its about 50 bucks each, but its bright when on. They started installing them outside my complex. Some neighbours with solar lights has installed 10-20w leds that lights up the road like a christmas tree and leave it on all night.
Takealot has the more expensive UK Aurora rechargable bulbs:

just works on resistance ,it used to be called the 3 mm globe .put the base in 3 mm of water in a mug and you have a portable lamp .if its the only globe in a circuit the moment you turn the switch on it picks up resistance from somewhere in the wiring circuit and turns on.if in a bedside lamp and unplugged it wont turn on ,the kids stick the base in their mouth and wander around the yard in the dark ,your tongue activates it .been available in many different guises for years now .if you google 3 mm globe im sure youll find a video.most of the good ones now come with a fake screw in base to bridge the contacts so you can hang it anywhere once charged.edit found a video:

Always made sense to me to just have one battery
ie 12v down lights one in each crucial space ie bathroom kitchen lounge linked to alarm battery , which you should have replaced with a lifep04 by now
And a rope light switch and naturally an additional charger to get the alarm battery full in the 4hrs time slot we are on eskom which you needed anyway
Can also buy just a bit bigger capacity one since you know it will double duty alarm/lights

yip they dont last long ,battery circuits suck and cheap chinese lith batteries arent very good.i built a lith charge board in on top of the lamps charger and it worked ok for a while then the leds popped .bridged half of them ,the ones that went black and it overheated and burnt out .

how long do they last? if i get 4 hrs im happy, will put in all the rooms, its hard to get good reviews from these rechargeable bulbs.

the new ones with replaceable 18650 batts ,7 hours they claim,2 batteries .builders sells one they claim 4 hours .but you must remember burn time on mains is recommended at 3 to 4 hours a day .usually a 7 watt lamp on mains will only give maybe 2 watt on battery .they take 7 to 8 hours to charge fully .the gu 10 units from hello today run for 8 hours .claimed time .

do you mean whilst the battery is discharging or as the lamp ages?
I actually asked this, because I would be concerned if the batteries are discharged to the point of not providing any light, obviously damaging them

If you really want good ones, they are very expensive. I have a few now and can safely say they last over 4 hours provided you charge them for accordingly. They also keep very cool, so no overheating of any kind.

I can also vouch for the Aurora rechargeable bulbs. I got two on a special for R300, and I should have gotten more of them. They claim 6 hours, but never tested them for such an extended time.If you really want good ones, they are very expensive.
