I find it almost completely pointless, if individual posts cannot be visibly 'thanked', as with any other forum just about, with a rep system.

Is there a particular reason this functionality is not available?

I think my feelings on the matter have not really changed, although I'd be curious what the intentions are for re-implementing the system. No harm in it, and if anything, if it encourages people to post the best posts that they can muster, it will add to the general quality of site content.
