New reputation system

Originally I though enabling the option to hide one's own rep, like we can with forum visibility, was the way to go but the whole system has been rendered meaningless - hence the second option.

Many Forumnites on MyBroadband have been hoarding reputation points, requesting rep. Reputation is earned not given. IF this was an out and out support board, yes, rep would had carried value.

You need people with green rep bars to rep you to move you off the 0 baseline...

This is what I don't understand - if everyone starts off with zero, then how does anyone become green in the first place?

I suspect time on the forum also mattered, I'm sure I had 1 green bar when the system originally started (but I could be mistaken).

They probably started with everyone having reputation, until they discovered that people would create "fake" accounts to give themselves rep and abusing the system, so they changed baseline to 0

Yeah this. And the people who got it got it from the people he gave it to. What I can't figure out is how some people got to uber rep, unless it's a non-linear system.
