New reputation system

The annoying thing is, I will vote to keep it, not because it does something useful, but because it's sort of halfway to doing something useful, and I'd rather have something than nothing. :p

As I mentioned before: We will trial the system for a few weeks and then put it to a vote as to whether we will keep it or not. People were initially concerned about negative voting (in our previous poll), and this has been removed.

Your vote will ultimately decide the fate of the reputation system.

It probably woulda worked out better if only negative was enabled.

I doubt that. People negative vote for the fun of it which can be annoying. I got negative repped at Systemshock two days ago because I haven't played on my PS3 in over a month. Its funny and all...but stupid. Negative reps will get you into the negative/red very quickly if you are not part of the clique.

Why not implement it in the same manner as avatars etc under control panel "thread control options" ?

Personally I'd disable them but having the option should keep everyone happy.

Most of mine are not gained in TK either, contrary to what most MIGHT think. & I have to agree, most posters do not see what happens via PM....

What happens in PM mustn't count
Technically you can only rep particular posts in threads.

The ability to visibly thank individual posts, is only available as a plugin, says rpm, which creates concerns about site stability, and is therefore impossible to implement.

3d party plugin, not a standard plugin

Pardon, this then.

If it was a standard plugin, the developers would make sure that the plugin is compatible with upgrades. It is maintained together with the forum. A 3d party plugin is maintained by the external coders who developed it, so if they decide to move on in life ... the plugin is left behind. When the forum is then updated, the plugin might cause the forum to fall apart.

Sure.
