New Rig

Extreme 6 looks the business to me. Asus as usual is expensive and does not offer good value but it is still a good board if you really want to buy asus.

I would not buy the case you picked, i would buy the haf x, mid towers are not for high end rigs and i have the 932 case and it's amazing so the it's older brother must be even better, good space, amazing cooling. High end rigs should be boxed in a high end well cooled box. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/cooler_master_haf_x_review,1.html

The cpu cooler i would go with the corsair h50/60 and upwards, i read the h100 has an issue with noise so stay away, that air cooler looks bulky and difficult to install, you might go mid tower which could cause issues with both my suggestion and yours.

The gpu is up to you, depends what you can afford but either one will be fine. depends on your budget and what games you play, if you do not play online games like bf 3 go with the cheaper one as you won't need the extra power and you can always drop another one in should you need to but again it's your money. If you have cash buy the more expensive one though.

We just need to check on the ram, you must select the model you want just to make sure it works with extreme4 if you choose the 4.

Go with the 850w you don't need 1000w 2.5k psu and you will never need it so you are literally wasting money there.

Nothing set in stone, that's why we discussing...

EDIT: Okay, so this one then??

Yebo yes, not much more than the mid tower, only 500 but when i buy a box i buy it for the future and i buy the best i can afford. Space means airflow which means good cooling, mid tower high end pc means cramped space with okish airflow.

I would assemble if i was you dude, honestly it's childs play but ask them if they can just in case.

Childs play if you done it a few times already. I'm not going to risk it...

Damn she tuned me blind i can't bargain for a blow job.

That's the last time you take her shopping!!

I have always been a Asus fan for years now. sold my Asus Z68 Board & got my self the Asrock Z77 extreme 4. What a great board. One of the reasons i went for it was it is such a great price compared to the similar spec Asus boards.

Great endorsement.

Agreed. Will go Extreme 6 and Haf x

Will take a look at that yeah.

Don't game at all, not to say I might not in the future. Thing is I got 3 monitors hooked up and I wouldn't mind adding a 4th at some stage so that's why the brutus card. I don't want to have to spend another cent on this rig for minimum the next 3 years. That's the only way I can justify the cost now!!

Agreed. TX850 modular will do nicely thanks.

Looks a sick box, consider it sold.

O you don't play games, haha o well at least if you ever want to you can.

Yup the haf x has been calling me for a long time but i decided i will never buy a case again because my 932 is fine, cost 2k but it will last 10 years and can handle anything i chuck at it.

What do you use the pc for then?

What do you use the pc for then?

Mybb....

Oversee and administer my business dealings from home. Home office.

Remote support for a dozen entities as well as 24/7 surveillance for a number of stores.

And then personal usage, browsing, email, series, streaming via home network to lcd's in and around the house.

The pc does serious mileage but is seldom taxed and/or maxed out.

Perfect the only problem is it comes with 1 warranty i think where as asus, gigabyte come two or three years but if it's like 1k cheaper it is worth it, if it is only 500 bucks you must consider the warranty.

Mmmmmm, I decided on the H80i Corsair water cooler but does the 942 Haf X support 120mm fan mount?

Made changes to my setup almost exclusively based on Newegg buyer ratings.

MOBO - ASRock Z77 OC Formula R2774.00
CPU Cooling - Noctua HD-D14 R899.00
Chassis - Corsair 600T ATX Mid Tower R1599.00
GPU - Sapphire Vapor-x Radeon HD7970 3GB OC R4999.00
PSU - Corsair HX850 gold certified R2008

Have bought the cpu, chassis and gpu from Evetech and I've also asked them to build the pc for me. R450 is what they want to charge and because some components have been sourced elsewhere they cannot over a 2 year support warranty on the build.

That mobo is amazing, you seem to be set so gooi hom :D.

everything else you seem set on but that cpu cooler, eish i dunno.

I would stick with the corsair water coolers, a cpu cooler that big is gonna cause issues with space, airflow and so on i would not buy it but it does get good reviews, apart from it blocking memory slots you should be fine if you use low profile memory but i have never been a fan of such massive cpu coolers so that is my personal choice, i prefer to try and keep my box as clear as possible for maximum cooling that thing just looks so big. I am not certain if you will need low profile ram but it is an issue with most mobo's unless you leave one of the 120mm fans it uses off but still blocking ram slots for me would be an issue.

Lol, yeah I been going round in circles lately.

This mobo is a m other f ucker of note but R800 more than the extreme 6.

I also went bos with 16gb of g.skill ram.

Then looking at newegg customer reviews of the TX850, there been a few issues with this model while the HX850 gold certified has outstanding reviews. I've actually had a TX850 with popped capacitors after less than a week.

Again the Noctua is a bit of monster but the buyer reviews are solid while reviews on the water cooling units are a bit mixed.

The board, case, cooler and ram all seem to be compatible.

Anyway in a game of give and take this is where we at.

Yea but i have read it blocks memory so if you have not bought low profile memory you will need to remove one of 120mm fans off the cooler. If i look at the mobo and cooler to me it looks certain it will block normal memory and you either need to remove the 120mm fan from cpu cooler or buy low profile memory.

Your call at the end of the day just be sure to let evetech know what you plan on sending them and get their advice regarding the cooler, perhaps they have dealt with a similar setup before but to me it looks like that cpu cooler will only work stock with low profile memory or you will need to remove the one fan to allow the memory slots to be opened.

Make 100% sure before you spend 900 bucks that it won't be an issue because it isn't easy to return stuff online.

Might be an issue with that cooler, not 100% sure, did you check on the cooler website if the ripjaw memory is given enough clearance?

I been checking that.

According to this it should be okay. I'm getting the G.skill Ripjaws X series DDR3-2133 4x4gb!!

Yea no you 100% boet, google and youtube has been not working very well today so i haven't done much researching but i just checked a video on youtube, way more than enough space.

Fking 75% packet loss on my line makes everything so flippin slow but yea that cooler after seeing the youtube vid looks 100%

Gonna be a beast pc. Wow that mobo gives me a boner :D.

Lol, yeah. Getting quite excited too. Looking pretty solid. I can't build this thing though. I'm not going to do it justice.

Wtf wrong with your line? You still with Openweb?

Yea but i have tried other people as well, must be telkom. Sites time out, sometimes i get no loading and kuk like that. It must be the exchange or my line because no other accounts worked, axxess and afrihost behave the same and now of course trying to tell telkom about packet loss should be fun :D. i even replaced my router when it got hit by lightning and it's the exact same story so telkom call tomorrow i hope i get someone who knows WTF packet loss is haha.

Odd thing is i can max out my 10 meg line with nzb's but websites have packet loss. Anyways can't game at the moment which sucks lol, 75% of my bullets do no damage. Fail.

yea i think it's best if you have never really put a pc together to get someone to do it and considering the parts and cost, 450 is nothing. They will also do a proper job, evetech really know their shyte. I have seen some of their pc builds at rage and they are clean, neat and stunning. They don't do half assed jobs. So it is 450 bucks very well spent.
