New Rig

I can justify it by saying the business needs a replacement for the one currently in service, it being a 5 year old machine with 16 surveillance cameras running off it 24/7. It also acts as a back office pc that the managers conduct their daily tasks on.

Still not a very good reason but then WHY NOT! Just keeping up with new technology is reason enough unless the cash could have been used to make more money.

So here is the final build. Gone Sabertooth at the 25th hour. AX850 as opposed to HX850 as Evetech wouldn't budge, had to buy all components from them in order to qualify for the 2 year warranty. They let the CPU go and ram but wouldn't concede on the MOBO and PSU, malakas but it is what it is....

ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77

Congrats on the build. I did not want to post about some of the minor issues I read about the ASrock Z77 so in my view I believe you have made (or were forced) a good decision. I hope the Asus mobo will live up to my expectations. Give us feedback on the results, even the lowdown's.

Thanks!!!! Will do!!! I think if Evetech stocked the ASRock Formula I would have got it!!!

Motherboard, in the end, come down to the following:

MSI Bigbang Mpower
ASRock Formula OC
Asus Sabertooth...

That Sabertooth is the most gorgeous board... Tech Porn!

Yeah, very nice!!!

Loving this pc!!!

Unfortunately the card I got doesn't support 3 screen setup via DVI and HDMI. Requires one monitor to be display port. All 3 of mine are DVI so I'm waiting for a display port to dvi active adapter.

Currently running my old 6870.

No OC at the moment either. Enjoying it vanilla for now.

It's weird that the x79 version of that board doesn't look as cool though.

Ja, the Z77's got this protective cover over the whole board. Not sure it's doing it any favours re heat dispersion. The board ships with 2 small fans which are meant to assist with cooling under the cover but I haven't installed these. Idle temps are around 32C-35C which is a little warmer than I was expecting.

My old Asus board P5N-D would run as hot as 46C :D - Well, your temperatures are also influenced by ambient temperature and case airflow. I'd say those temps are okay if it is without the fans. Seems to me Asus boards run a tad hotter. Maybe it's because of the extreme speed!
